Yeah, there's truth in all that, but I suppose I tend to differentiate between "entertaining" and "good"...I mean, that's just my take...

But I have to disagree...I can't even call "commando" entertaining...

I think entertaining are those movies that FX plays on weekend afternoons, but commando still makes me cringe thinking about it. I think the first time didn't hurt so bad, but afterwards...

That said, bloodsport is entertaining as all get out...and if you like more of that "the quest" has the exact same Damme plotline ;D

I like you, macleod. You're a funny guy; that's why I'm going to kill you last.    :P

p.s. that is, by the way, the ONLY line I remember from that movie.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

true pakky well said.  granted movies that are entertaining but have nothing else are essentially roadhouse clones.

macleod

haha..

well, if nothing else, Commando taught us that Arnold, greased up without a shirt, can take out about 400 well armed revolutionaries..

Bah!... That was common knowledge way before Commando~

Yeah, but even Commando makes Conan look like Hamlet (and, no, not the crappy MSTied German Version)

Commando is the most awesomest film ever committed to celluloid.  Fact.

...

Well not really, but it is pretty awesome!  ;D

The best cheesy Arnold movie, in my opinion leastways, has to be "the Running Man"...with good ole' Jesse Ventura...that's just classic 80's cheese

Seconded. Commando eats Green Berets for breakfast!

Running Man is another good cheeseball Arnold flick, but I still prefer Commando by a slight margin.

Back to topic...

Maybe I'm just 9 years old inside or something, but one of the riffs that made my laugh very, very hard was:

"Lick me."

"Lick me."

"TAKE TURNS licking me."

For me, this track further bolstered my theory that Bill is one of MST3K's most underrated talents.  His inflection and timing are subtly fantastic.  He's a scalpel; Kevin is an anvil plummeting from the sky.  (This is not a slam on Kevin, mind you, merely a description of his style.  Some jokes require an anvil.)  And Mike is the Outback-sized, comedically solid steak knife between the two.  I do believe this is why the many Sci-Fi era epis are among my favorites; the balance amongst the three is perfectly struck.

And finally:

Quote
I hit the floor laughing during the dueling shatners "Spaaaaaahk spaaaaaaaaaaaahk spaaaaaaaaaahk" and then when Kevin mimic'd Shatner actually doing it "SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHK"

Please help out a non-Trekkie here.  Once and for all, could someone please explain the "Spaaaaaaaahk" reference?

(Once I had to pause the whole shebang and have the following phone conversation with my fiance:

"Yes?"
"The Klingons are bad, right?"
"Right.  Well, mostly.  In Genera--"
"Okay, thank you.")

It's a goof on Shatner's overacting. There have been occasions when he says the word "Spock" and draws it out unnecessarily.

That said:

"KHAAAAAAAAANN!"

p.s. In the MST3K movie, the "Spaahhhk" joke is used to great effect.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.

I might get pounced on for this, but the "spaaahk" joke is getting a little old

That said, it WAS great in MST3K the movie...if only it was in print...

its a running gag to fill space that no joke really belongs. The dualing shatners is of course the epitome of it.

No, it was hilarious in the dueling shatners segment. I half expected to start hearing some dueling banjos with that one
