I Sell The Dead

I Sell the Dead<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=zombithon-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0030Y11QU" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none!important;margin:0!important;" /> is a quirky little film that came in under the radar earlier this year. Equal parts Creepshow and Tales From The Crypt, there's a comic-book like quality to the comedy... figuratively and literally.

The story basically follows the misadventures of two graverobbers who specialize in the undead. They come across vampires, space aliens and rival body snatchers during their travels. But they ultimately meet their match when confronted by zombies!

Starring Ron Perlman and the hobbit from LOST, it's a lighthearted horror film that manages to mix comedy and fantasy pretty well. And because of the significant role zombies play at the end of the film, i imagine we'll be seeing even more of them in the upcoming sequel. Continue Reading...

Zombie Women Of Satan

Hey kids, do you like bloody, half-naked zombie chicks? Well, if you do Zombie Women Of Satan has you covered! This low budget mess throws everything in the mix and hopes for the best. There's burlesque performers, clowns, an evil scientist and even a dwarf. I'm not sure what more you could possibly want. I mean, other than a decent movie of course.

In a film called Zombie Women Of Satan... it's not really surprising that the plot is secondary to the spectacle. But basically the movie follows some sort of popular underground burlesque show. However when they travel to a weird, sex-cult compound for an interview the troupe finds themselves in the middle of a zombie outbreak. Continue Reading...

Quarantine

I must have watched Quarantine<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=zombithon-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B001MVYUQQ" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none!important;margin:0!important;" /> just a little too soon after seeing [Rec]<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=zombithon-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0028DRGDQ" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none!important;margin:0!important;" />. Because, unfortunately all i could do while watching it was compare the two.

I'm not as vehemently opposed to remakes as i used to be. I actually try to be more open to the idea, especially when it comes to foreign language movies. But Quarantine walks the line between faithful adaptation and completely unnecessary remake.

Except for a few scenes here and there, it's pretty much the same movie. Although it seems like the shots are a little more thought out... in terms of blocking, lighting and whatnot. But, when dealing with the shaky-cam genre i'm not really sure that's a good thing. It feels a little more slick which, in turn, makes it feel a little more fake. Continue Reading...

Exclusive Review - The Walking Dead: Days Gone By

We have laid eyes on the very first episode of AMC's brand new series The Walking Dead, and it is truly awesome! From the opening scene to the frighteningly claustrophobic finale... this premiere episode delivers on its promise, and lives up to the hype. The Walking Dead is a series that should please zombie fans everywhere!

Of course, the pilot episode isn't perfect. It's obvious that the show is still finding it's footing, and occasionally it stumbles. In the rush to establish it's premise, some situations or dialogue simply don't ring true. But by the end of the first episode The Walking Dead recovers nicely and leaves you ready for more.

Days Gone By airs this Sunday night on AMC, and should make for some terrifying Halloween viewing. Of course, if you simply can't wait... just continue reading after the break for our extensive, spoiler-heavy review! Continue Reading...

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

I've seen it as well.  I'm not quite as enthusiastic as you are (I said something about it in the "Television you've seen via Netflix..." etc).

Going to depend on if they can keep it interesting....or if it's going to devolve into another version of "Lost" only with zombies instead of a smoke monster.

Meanwhile, they've been showing promos for it all day on AMC that include a lot of footage not in the pilot (and quite a few spoilers).

They're also promoting a contest in which you watch, get a code, enter it at their website and they're giving away a "stagger on" role as a zombie in an episode of the show.....

Which I guess includes airfare to glamorous Atlanta, GA where they film?   :D

Dead Heat

I'd never even heard of Dead Heat<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=zombithon-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0000YTPN4" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none!important;margin:0!important;" />, so thanks to aLeXiS for putting this little gem on my radar! I'm actually surprised that it's not considered a zombie classic. I mean, it stars Treat Williams, Joe Piscopo, Vincent Price... there's even short cameos from Robert Picardo and Linnea Quigley. So where the heck has this movie been all my life?

Well, apparently it got stuck back in the 80s. Because this movie just feels like some lost television pilot that should have aired between The A-Team and Cagney &amp; Lacey. Actually, it's a little more cheezy than that... so like Night Court meets Simon &amp; Simon. But, ya' know... with zombies.

Williams and Piscopo play buddy cops who investigate a pharmaceutical company for creating zombies who rob jewelry stores. Seriously, i swear that's how the movie starts! Anyway, the bust goes bad and Williams dies. Of course his partner brings him back to life, and they proceed to hunt down the evil mastermind behind the scheme. Continue Reading...
