I actually liked the remake of Dawn of the Dead. I had already seen the original years before I knew of the remake. The difference I think is that in original Dawn of the Dead, the landscape has been laid out from the timeline of the previous film. The remake makes no assumptions on the audience and just starts from one day being normal to the next chaos. Sure what was lost was the living reverting back to their animal instincts,  I think there was plenty of added material not found in the original that made it worth watching(I'm not just talking about the tits at the credits).

At least I was entertained. The same cannot be said of Wicker Man, though I do think it qualifies as a "good bad movie."

Could not agree more

What I liked about the Dawn of the Dead remake was FAST MOVING ZOMBIES.

What always annoyed me about zombie movies was, the zombies shuffled along so slowly, you could escape them by going no faster than grandma who power walks in the mall.   Now fast moving zombies added real terror.

Haha, I suppose I wasn't thinking about "terror," but it made the movie interesting, but it also made it a tough sell for me. It's like "your flesh is rotting away and your body is decomposing sort of, but man, the deader you get the faster you'll be"

Of course, this opens up the possibility for Zombie olympics...

...and Nathan's Coney Island Annual Brain Eating Competition!

Altho I guess zombies wouldn't really need to be fast, per se, to compete in that...

Fast zombies AREN'T scary. They're essentially a bunch of crackheads on a big binge.

Now, slow zombies, Romero zombies, REAL zombies, they're creepy. They're scary. They're frightening when they do come at you and bite you. They're hungry and they will eat you. You look behind your shoulder....phew, no one there. Then all of a sudden...MUNCH! You're being eaten alive!
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

I'm sorry, but if the terror comng after me is something I could escape from on a "Rascal", I'm not impressed.

sarcasm_made_Easy

with zombies its not the speed but the number.  you could out run one but several million thats a different story.

Well, Shaun of the dead did give me hope for Zombie outrunning...

...easily one of the best and most hilarious movies ever made (particularly if you know the zombie genre)

Agreed, that was a great movie with a high "rewatch" value.

Now "Land of the Dead"

...that was pretty stupid beyond reason...yes folks, the Undead become intelligent...

Pak-Man

Well, intelligentISH. From what I gathered, they start aping their past life. Doesn't mean they know what they're doing. :^)

macleod

See, in my mind, I thought Land of the Dead was just George Romero's final attempt to do every insanely gory thing he couldn't do before the current era of special effects...

That was about the whole point that I could see...

Again, I like Zombie movies normally, but that was rough...
