Happy Birthday, Mark II

[Compound]

Warner Brothers sent me a lovely email today, reminding me that Hermione Granger's birthday is September 19, so buy some Harry Potter stuff! Hermione was born in 1979, BTW, so happy 31st birthday!

So... she was older than me the whole time?  I never realized that the films were period pieces.

I guess somewhere in the movies they must mention dates but I don't remember any.

Looking up on the web it seems Harry's first year was supposidly 1990.  Odd since the first book was written in 97, I guess she was thinking ahead and knew there would be 7 books so back dated the first story 7 years so she didn't have to deal with any unexpected real world events.  Pretty good thinking if that was true, 911 would have been hard to ignore for the start of year 5 if she started the story in 97.

Maybe making it period just explains the lack of cell phones and such. Given how wirdly anacronistic the old world technology is at Hogwarts, though, it hardly seems to matter.
