Master Cheif DIDN'T make it? I expected top 10 at least
Why? It's been a while since I've played the Halo games, but I don't really remember him doing anything that makes him a great character in the literary sense. He seemed very cookie-cutter.

Pak-Man

I was surprised he didn't make the cut myself. I've never been a big fan of Halo, but Master Chief was all that and a side of fries just a few years ago. How soon we forget.

On with the countdown!

#15 - Fox McCloud
(78 Points) 5 of 24 Lists - Highest Ranking - #5 - Invader Quirk

Sorry to jet, but I'm in a hurry! .

List of Games:

Star Fox
Star Fox 2 (Canceled)
Star Fox 64
Super Smash Bros.
Star Fox Adventures
Star Fox: Assault
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Star Fox Command
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Stunt Race FX

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Fox McCloud is an anthropomorphic red fox and the main protagonist of the Star Fox series. He is also a pilot, combatant, adventurer, and leader of the Star Fox team. Fox is the son of James McCloud, who taught him throughout his childhood to never give up. During his teen years, Fox joined the Cornerian Flight Academy with his close friend Bill Grey. It was during this time that Andross made his first move against the Lylat System. Fox is also good friends with Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad, who apparently joined him at the academy. Fox also considers Peppy Hare a father figure, as the two formed a bond after James' death.

Fox has green eyes which sometimes appear to be blue, orange-brown fur, and his golden-brown white-highlighted hair is cut into a crew cut. The rest of his skin is a cream-colored tone. He also has a bushy white-tipped tail. Fox is of medium height and weight, but this is contradicted in the Super Smash Bros. games, where he is a mid-sized target, but also very light.

Fox is an overall strong and loyal leader. Although a bit of a cocky rogue with a tendency to disregard rules and regulations (and to complain if he's not being paid enough), he is ultimately, according to Star Fox Adventures, "pure of heart". Fox is shown to be very protective of his friends, as seen in the games, of his team. Fox's facial expression is always either a stoic look or cocky smile.

Fox speaks in a rather youthful voice in all games.

According to the Japanese manual for Star Fox 64, Fox was born on Papetoon to James and Vixy Reinard McCloud 18 years before the Lylat Wars. Due to his mother's death when he was still young, he was almost entirely raised by his father on Corneria. He displayed exceptional aerial skills even at a young age and joined the Cornerian Flight academy along with Bill and Slippy Toad. It is in this time he also met Falco Lombardi.

Later, strange activity would be reported coming from the planet, Venom, where five years previously General Pepper had banished the delusional power-mad scientist, Andross. James McCloud, member of the Star Fox team, flew to Venom to investigate, but was betrayed by his fellow pilot Pigma Dengar and he along with Peppy were captured. Peppy soon managed to escape and James was supposedly killed by Andross.

Peppy Hare returned from the incident as the sole survivor to inform Fox of his father's fate. Emotionally gripped by the news, Fox dropped out of the Academy in order to avenge his father's apparent death. Peppy took Fox under his wing, and together formed a new Star Fox team, recruiting Falco and Slippy to the team.

Trivia:

Miyamoto finally settled on having a fox as the main character after visiting Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto, the head shrine of Inari, a Japanese kami associated with foxes. Inari is portrayed as being able to fly, and its shrines, particularly the one in Kyoto, are surrounded by red arches (torii), giving Miyamoto the idea of a fox that could fly through arches.

Pak's Thoughts - I'll never forget the first time I played Star Fox on the SNES. The sound of the claxons blaring while the emergency broadcast plays in the opening scene, coupled with the at-the-time revolutionary graphics made for one of the most immersive experiences you could get on your Super Nintendo.

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Donkey Kong (or DK for short), is the powerful Kong hero of Donkey Kong Island and the main character of the Donkey Kong series. Though known as Donkey Kong, he is actually the original's son and successor after the latter retired after his numerous defeats at hands of Mario. The character Donkey Kong first appeared in the game of the same name where he acted as the main antagonist, however, sometime after his defeat, he retired (as mentioned above) and eventually let his age get to him and took on the name Cranky Kong, while his son Donkey Kong Jr., became the current Donkey Kong thus inheriting his father's name, lineage and responsibilities. The current Donkey Kong, designed by Rare, is a carefree simian who spends his days collecting Bananas and spending time with his friends and family, particularly his nephew and best friend, Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong is very protective of his island and his Banana Hoard, and because of this, he is always ready to protect them from those who would attempt to steal or do harm to either. The original Donkey Kong's character design was created by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Donkey Kong arcade game.

Donkey Kong's first appearance (un-chronologically) was in the Arcade game of the same name, where he was the main villain. In the game, Donkey Kong made off with Mario's girlfriend, Pauline, and carried her to the top of a high construction site. He was pursued by Mario, and attacked him by throwing Barrels and creating living Fireballs. He was eventually pursued to the top of the construction site, where Mario caused the bars supporting him to crash, sending him to the ground. However, this is not Cranky Kong going by the name of Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong tried to kidnap Pauline yet again in the Gameboy game Donkey Kong '94, this time accompanied by his son Donkey Kong Jr.. Donkey Kong's tactics in this game remained virtually the same, he attacked mainly by throwing a variety of objects at the hero.

It is still speculated exactly why Donkey Kong tried to kidnap Pauline: while some sources say that he took her in revenge against Mario (who had abused him) others (perhaps trying to show Mario in a more favorable light) say that Donkey Kong fell in love with the damsel-in-distress.

Donkey Kong took the role of damsel-in-distress during Donkey Kong Jr.. In this game, Mario actually kidnapped Donkey Kong perhaps to keep him from from kidnapping Pauline and stood guard next to his cage with a whip. In the end Donkey Kong Jr. arrived and defeated Mario to free Donkey Kong.

In Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong was a main villain once again, although this time he did not fight Mario (who had gone on to star in his own series, and would not meet with Mario again until much later). In this game, Donkey Kong has gone on a rampage inside a greenhouse and a local exterminator called Stanley the Bugman was called in to defeat him (along with other bugs destroying plants in the greenhouse). Donkey Kong would use a system of ropes to lower himself to the greenhouse floor. When he reaches the floor, the game ends and Donkey Kong is able to destroy the rest of the greenhouse. After Stanley sprays Donkey Kong with insecticide three times to keep him off the greenhouse floor, he runs away.

Because Donkey Kong 3 was notably less popular, Donkey Kong, (along with some other characters from the Arcade games) were not seen for a while. Donkey Kong did appear as a sort of host for the game Donkey Kong Jr. Math, where he gave the player math signs so that they would know which operation to perform. He also appeared in some re-makes and made small cameos, but had no large roles.

After the battles between Donkey Kong and Mario played out, Donkey Kong's life became much calmer. During this time, Donkey Kong forged lasting friendships with many of the Kongs, including his eager friend, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, and his current girlfriend Candy Kong. During this point in time, Donkey Kong Jr. Disappeared, and we were introduced to Cranky Kong. He eventually moved out and began his reign over the jungle. Much of the monkey's time was spent collecting Bananas to add to his Banana Hoard, and he lived a relatively laid back lifestyle as compared to his original appearance.

Trivia:

He is currently voiced by Takashi Nagasako in most of the games as of 2004.

Pak's Thoughts - Donkey Kong is the bomb. He was a great villain back in the old arcade games, and he's gone on to come into his own in a number of great platformers. He's one of my go-to guys in all the multiplayer mario spinoffs he's starred in. If continuously pounding the ground in a game of Smash Bros. is cheap, then lock me in gamer prison. It's just too much fun. :^)

Groovy!

List of Games:

Earthworm Jim 3D
Clayfighter 63 1/3
Battle Arena Toshinden

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Earthworm Jim is the protagonist of the Earthworm Jim video games and animated series. For most of his life, Jim was just an ordinary earthworm engaging in normal worm activities, such as eating dirt, crawling, and fleeing from hungry birds, until one day wherein fate should happen to smile upon him and his life was changed forever. A fearsome bounty hunter named Psy-Crow was en route to deliver the "Ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit" to Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Puss-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt, but got in a confrontation with another space ship and lost the suit out of an airlock. The suit fell to earth landing on a farm somewhere in the southern United States. While fleeing from a flock of hungry crows Jim took refuge in the mysterious suit. The suit's powerful atomic particles affected Jim's wormy flesh and caused him to grow and evolve at a fantastic rate. Upon discovering his new-found powers granted by the suit, he overhears Psy-Crow talking to Queen Slug-For-A-Butt, and becomes interested in meeting the queen's twin sister, Princess What's-Her-Name, setting up the events of the first game. Through the games, Jim travels to many planets and faces many villains who are after the suit. In Earthworm Jim 2, Jim must rescue Princess What's-Her-Name when she is kidnapped by Psy-Crow.

Jim posesses a wealth of firepower while in his suit and also has the ability to grab his Earthworm body out of his suit and crack it like a whip.

Trivia:

Earthworm Jim is voiced in Clayfighter by Dan Castellaneta, of Homer Simpson fame.

Pak's Thoughts - Oh there may be better-made platformers out there, with clearer hit-detection and tighter controls, but Earthworm Jim remains my favorite platformer of all time. How many other games are there that randomly make you launch a cow mid-level for no clear reason, or that make you dress up like a blind cave salamander as a disguise, without really explaining why you were disguised? The animation was beautiful in its day and still looks good today, and Doug TenNapel's character design rocks. One day, in an act of sheer devotion, I may actually play through the abomination that is Earthworm Jim 3D. I haven't yet, but I've thought about it, and that's devotion right there! :^)

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Sonic the Hedgehog is a supersonic hedgehog that can move faster than the speed of sound (765 mph, which is faster than Mach 1), with lightning reflexes to match (hence the name Sonic) and loves adventure. He acknowledges the fact that the Earth is just as cool and blue as he is. He is 15 years old, stands at 100 centimeters (3 ft 3 in), weighs 35 kilograms (77 lbs) and was born on Christmas Island. Artist Naoto ?shima, designer Hirokazu Yasuhara and programmer Yuji Naka are generally credited with the creation of the character, a blue-furred, blue and-peach-skinned, green-eyed, anthropomorphic African pygmy hedgehog, who has the ability to move faster than the speed of sound and possesses the ability curl up into a ball (like a regular hedgehog), primarily to attack enemies. This is a major part of the gameplay of the series.

In April 1990, Sega requested a game capable of selling over one million copies, a character who could compete against Nintendo's Super Mario, and a character to replace Alex Kidd as the company's mascot. Several character designs were submitted by its AM8 research & development department, including an armadillo (who was later developed into Mighty the Armadillo), a dog, an over-sized Theodore Roosevelt in pajamas (which would later be the basis of Doctor Eggman's design), and a rabbit (intended to use its extendable ears to collect objects; these aspects were later incorporated into Ristar, and were later incorporated into Sonic's Werehog transformation). Eventually, a hedgehog, whose color was based on the SEGA logo, his shoe buckles based on "Michael Jackson", his shoe color based on "Santa Clause" and his personality, on the other hand, was directly inspired by future-President Bill Clinton, who Ohshima felt embodied a modern sensibility of wanting to get things done right away, righting wrongs as they presented themselves instead of letting them linger initially codenamed "Mr. Needlemouse", was chosen as the new mascot.

A group of fifteen started working on Sonic the Hedgehog and renamed themselves Sonic Team. The game's soundtrack was composed by Masato Nakamura of the band Dreams Come True. Sega sponsored the group's "Wonder 3" tour, painting Sonic on the tour bus, distributing pamphlets advertising the game, and having footage of the game broadcast above stage prior to its release.

Sonic's precise age, weight, height and other physical characteristics vary depending on the continuity in which he appears and the style in which he is drawn. In the video games, Sonic's original design by Naoto ?shima was quite short and childlike (perhaps because he was 10 years old at the time of debut), with short spiky hair, a round body, one spike in his back, and no visible irises. Artwork featuring this design and drawn by Akira Watanabe was displayed on the package artwork for Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), and most subsequent Sonic video games featured similar designs. Beginning with Sonic Adventure in 1998, Sonic was redesigned by Yuji Uekawa as a 15-year-old, taller character with longer legs and a less spherical body, longer and more drooping spiky hair, two spikes in his back, and emerald-green-colored eyes. Further subtle changes to the character's design have been made in subsequent games. Spin-off media such as comics and cartoons have featured variations on all these video game designs, with restrictions set by the standardized model sheets.

Sonic has been described as being "like the wind", and is noted for being free-spirited and adventurous. He mainly prefers to simply be called by his name and not any fancy title; in his encounters with Princess Elise and Cream the Rabbit (both called him "Mr. Sonic"), Shahra the Ring Genie (who called him "Master"), Caliburn the Sword (who called him "Knave", though Sonic was especially annoyed by this), and Erazor Djinn (who kept calling him "Filthy rat", though it might just be an insult), he insisted that they merely call him "Sonic". He enjoys relaxation, but is never one to rest in the face of injustice. He is extremely benevolent and always keeps his word and he willingly puts himself at risk to help others, taking on any challenge that confronts him without hesitation, though he usually sees his heroics and fighting evil as an opportunity to have fun, making him somewhat of a thrill-seeker and adrenaline junkie. However, in times of crisis, he focuses entirely on the task at hand and sees it as truly serious with no real fun involved. Sonic is shown to have a remarkable capacity to forgive, as seen in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), when he quickly forgave Silver and accepted his help in saving Elise in their third encounter, despite that Silver tried to kill him, twice

The Japanese version of Sonic Advance 3 strategy guide, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic and the Black Knight states that, Sonic's favorite food is chili dogs. He displays an interest in rock music. Some official character art and a television commercial for Sonic Adventure suggests that he has a personal hobby as a Disc Jockey. Furthermore, it is displayed in Sonic Rush for the Nintendo DS that Sonic also enjoys break dancing as it is one of his primary ways for filling up his Rush meter. His battle moves in Sonic Battle are also based on break dancing, as mentioned in the attack descriptions. He also breakdances in Sonic Advance 3 if he finishes a level in a short-enough time. Lastly, one of his taunts in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is him break dancing and saying, "C'mon, step it up!" .He will also breakdance if he gets first place in the "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games" (Similar to Luigi so they may be rivals in that way.) He has been credited as "the fastest thing alive" being able to run faster than the speed of sound.

Sonic Unleashed's booklet states that his personality is "A juxtaposition of kindness and ferocity, as, on one hand, he does all he can to snuff out evil, but he can't look away when someone is in trouble.". Sonic Unleashed also has sidequests in which Sonic the Werehog is trying to convince the Elder Gregorios in Apotos that he is Sonic the Hedgehog. To prove it, Sonic undergoes a test of speed, which involves him getting a pair of glasses for the Elder in a certain time limit; a test of courage, by protecting the Elder from minions of Dark Gaia; and a test of selflessness and kindness, which involves Sonic obtaining a book for the Elder out of kindness. Despite being very proud and a world renowned showoff, he shows some form of modesty when taking compliments. This is shown in Sonic and the Secret Rings where Sonic prefers not to be called "Master", and where he is referred to as the "Legendary Hedgehog" ("Me? Legendary? You've gotta be kidding! You're gonna make me blush!").

At times, Sonic seems to be somewhat overconfident in his abilities; for example, when Merlina stops him from attacking the Black Knight, he is irked and asked why she did so, positive that he could have defeated him.

Sonic's taunts and confidence easily portray that he is smug, he is also very stubborn, as shown in the end of Team Sonic's story in Sonic Heroes. After narrowly escaping Eggman's exploding ship, Knuckles exclaims, "Boy, talk about cutting close!" to which Sonic replies, "Not really..." this implies Sonic is too stubborn to admit a task is difficult for him, but after being teased by Knuckles, Sonic admits he needed Knuckles' and Tails' help, to Knuckles' obvious great surprise.

Sonic is also known for indomitable will (which no doubt goes hand in hand with stubbornness) and his will to keep on fighting surpasses his actual ability to keep on fighting. An example of this can be seen in Sonic and the Black Knight, where Sonic continues to try to fight Merlina despite being unable to reach her through her force field shield, being hit repeated times so he is badly hurt and exhausted, and having his sword broken as he attempted to parry Merlina's attack. Sonic's friends plead him to give up, but he refuses ("It was never about chivalry for me. I've just gotta do what I gotta do, that's all...")

It has also been shown that Sonic will try to hide pain, fear (unless Amy gets angry) or exhaustion, and will do so up until he faints.

It has been revealed that Sonic loves his speed and that his rivals have never insulted his speed except Jet the Hawk, which makes Jet Sonic's only rival that actually gets him mad.

It is to note that regardless of the countless foes he has fought throughout the series, he bears no ill will to none of them, but rather he admires how powerful some of them are and how much fun they have given to him. An example of this is seen when Metal Sonic is defeated and Sonic tells him that he is open for a rematch. Most notable towards Dr. Eggman, whom has constantly tried to destroy him to complete his schemes, however Sonic is satisfied with merely stopping him, also in occasions where Eggman helps Sonic and co. to save the world (although for his own interests, mainly because he couldn't take over the world, if it's destroyed) he never rejects his help.

Trivia:

The reason Sonic is blue in color is so that he can represent SEGA's logo which is blue. Also, the color blue symbolizes "peace", which Yuji Naka felt that the word "peace" describes Sonic's character very well.

Sonic is usually voiced by Jason Griffith.

Pak's Thoughts - It's all Sonic's fault, really. All those awful mascot games that flooded the market in the '90s starring anthropomorphic animals with a 'tude? They were all trying to be Sonic. But only Sonic can be Sonic, and he remains an icon to this day. A lot of people accuse Sonic of going downhill over the years, saying he's devolved into an outdated X-Treme type character, but Sonic has always been about the Extreme Extremeness to me, and he's stayed pretty true to form over the years, IMHO.

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Kirby is the main character of Nintendo's Kirby video game series created by Masahiro Sakurai and developed by HAL Laboratory. The Kirby series is one of Nintendo's many well-known game franchises, spanning nearly thirty games since 1992 [1]. His first appearance took place in the 1992 video game Kirby's Dream Land. Here he was portrayed by a two-dimensional sprite though he has also been conveyed by a three-dimensional computer-generated image in some games. He has been featured in video games from Nintendo, on Nintendo's merchandising, in manga, and even an anime series.

His model was created as a blob placeholder sprite during the development of what would be the first Kirby game, originally titled Twinkle Popo instead of Hoshi no K?b? (translated as 'Kirby of the Stars') as it is called in Japan (or Kirby's Dream Land as it is called in the U.S.). After a while, creator Masahiro Sakurai started to prefer Kirby's placeholder design over the 'original conception'.

Sakurai always intended for Kirby to be pink. However, Shigeru Miyamoto had originally wanted him to be yellow. Because of this ambiguity, Nintendo of America was left with some confusion when the game was ported to the West. The American box art, cartridge label, instruction booklet, and even the television commercial for Kirby's Dream Land feature Kirby entirely white in color (based on the grey-scale visuals of the Game Boy game). The Japanese box art, however, correctly depicts Kirby as pink. A Yellow Kirby is however used for the second player in any Kirby game that features multiplayer(excluding Kirby Super Star, Kirby Super Star Ultra, and Kirby's Dream Land 3).

There is a good deal of debate on the origins of Kirby's name. A widespread myth is that Kirby adopted his Western name from the Kirby Corporation, which is a vacuum cleaner company and would suit Kirby and his inhalation abilities. The other explanation is that Kirby was named in honor of Nintendo's legal counsel, John Kirby of Latham & Watkins LLP, after John Kirby saved Nintendo during a copyright infringement lawsuit over Donkey Kong filed by Universal Studios. However, Masahiro Sakurai has been quoted as saying he does not remember how Kirby got his name.

Kirby is a small, pink, spherical creature with large red shoes, blue oval shaped eyes with black pupils, stubby arms and pink cheek-blushes. His body is soft and flexible, allowing him to be flattened. He is said to be 20 centimetres (8 inches) tall, and his weight is unknown, although several parts of the anime and the Super Smash Bros. series suggest that he is light enough to be carried. He hails from Pop Star, where he lives in a dome-shaped house in Dream Land. His appearance has changed subtly over the years, becoming more rounded and defined, mainly in his face and larger eyes. The new design has been used in all subsequent games.

Kirby has a positive attitude, and helps to save Dream Land through the use of his unique powers. His age is never stated, although in the manual for Kirby's Dream Land he is called a "little boy", and in the television show he is called a 'baby' where he more or less acts like a child. All this, along with his high-pitched voice, suggests that Kirby is young. Kirby is referred to as male in the animated series and King Dedede in Kirby Super Star Ultra, when he says, "Can't anyone beat that guy?".

Kirby is cheerful and innocent. He loves to eat and sleep, especially during the day. His favorite food is tomatoes, hence the Maxim Tomatoes in the games which fully restore his health (although in the anime, his favorite food appears to be watermelon. possibly because Maxim Tomatoes don't exist in the anime). He is said to dislike caterpillars. His other hobbies include singing, although he is tone-deaf. He sometimes acts in an impulsive nature, such as when he accuses Dedede of interfering with the Fountain of Dreams in Kirby's Adventure, and then leaves to retrieve the pieces of the shattered Star Rod without even letting Dedede explain himself. His impulsiveness is also made an important plot point in Kirby: Squeak Squad where Kirby immediately blames King Dedede for the theft of his strawberry shortcake without any proof, then later on releases Dark Nebula from a Treasure Chest he thinks contains his cake.

The same personality and nature is presented in the Super Smash Bros. titles. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, his trophy profile states that he is an "extremely skilled technician". Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede play a large role in the Subspace Emissary mode as well.

Although (or perhaps because) he appears cute and innocent, many commercials and ads have showcased this as a contrast to his extreme fighting skills when he takes on the weaponry of an enemy.

Like many of Nintendo's protagonists, Kirby is a character of few words and rarely speaks in-game. His dialogue is largely limited to appearances in some games' instruction manuals, and brief comments such as 'Hi' in games including Super Smash Bros. and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The only exception is in Kirby's Avalanche, where he is depicted as rude and smart-alecky. This game, however, is an American-made spin-off of the Puyo Puyo games (similar to the Sonic title Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) and was never released in Japan. Despite his lack of dialogue, Kirby narrates the functions of certain Copy Abilities on the pause menu in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, and Kirby: Squeak Squad. In Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu, Kirby gives short descriptions of various menu options when they are highlighted. Most of the in game talking Kirby does is in Kirby's Star Stacker, where Kirby explains the game's rules, along with brief gameplay descriptions (if it isn't done by Dedede). The concept of Kirby being mostly mute is supported by Masahiro Sakurai's insistence that Kirby not speak in the anime series. Though occasionally in the anime he does say the names of his special attacks, certain foods and sometimes does repeat other words that he hears such as yuki (snow) or suika (watermelon). In the Super Smash Bros. series, When Kirby copies a foe's ability, Kirby says the name of some attacks, such as Captain Falcon's "Falcon Punch" (See: Kirby Anime Development).

Kirby may have very little sense of taste. For example, every Cappy who has tasted Monsieur Goan's spicy food would breathe flames or catch fire, while Kirby was able to take the heat. Everything truly disgusting, like Belly Buster's pies or Mariels in Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby would hate or take damage from. Suprisingly, though, there is a food item in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra that is a rotten pumpkin.

Kirby's main attack is inhaling enemies (both his mouth and body expand to allow him to inhale things much larger than himself) and swallowing them. He can also attack others by spitting enemies out as stars. Certain enemies, when swallowed, grant Kirby new powers called Copy Abilities.

In the anime Kirby is an astonishingly fast runner. In one episode with Kracko he could run fast enough to skim across water and get over the horizon within seconds. It is also explained in episode "Beware: Whispy Woods!" that whatever Kirby consumes enters another dimension. In the same episode, it is hinted that Kirby is telepathic.

In Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby did not have copy abilities. He collected power ups, such as a sweet potato, which enabled him to shoot out endless air pellets for a limited amount of time, and curry and rice, which let Kirby shoot out fireballs from his mouth until the items effect wore off.

In most early games, an ability does not change Kirby's appearance drastically, aside from his color changing to orange or cyan in Kirby's Adventure, or wielding a weapon for abilities like Sword or Hammer. However, beginning with Kirby Super Star, Kirby gains a unique hat for each ability, such as a burning headdress for Fire, a frozen crown for Ice, or a backwards baseball cap for Yoyo and Wheel. While this would be overlooked in later games not designed by Masahiro Sakurai, such as Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the hats have become a staple of the series.

In Kirby Super Star, Kirby could sacrifice an ability to create a 'Helper', an allied version of the enemy he had devoured. The new Helper would be controlled by the game or a second player. This feature has not yet been included in later Kirby games, although it was included in Kirby Super Star's remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Kirby also uses his powers to attain food or other special items like lollipops that grant him beneficial effects such as healing or temporary invincibility. Kirby Super Star and recent games contain a feature where Kirby can share his food with the second player in a motion that resembles kissing. It became a popular topic to parody in the Japanese manga series. The Kirby Super Star Ultra booklet refers to it as 'face-to-face food transfer.'

Kirby can suck in air and make himself more buoyant, flying slowly by flapping his arms. He can attack enemies by quickly exhaling a puff of air. This technique is known as the air gun. Whilst in most games he can float indefinitely, this ability is limited in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Super Smash Bros. (series), and Kirby Air Ride. Other games have developed his powers even further, such as allowing him to block attacks in Kirby Super Star. As a whole, however, his basic moves have remained the same, although more Copy Abilities are added in each new game. In a future game announced for the Wii, Kirby is again given the ability to release his absorbed enemy as an ally. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kirby displays an ability called "Cook Kirby", that was taken from Kirby Super Star, as his Final Smash. For this power, Kirby acquires a chef's hat, cooking utensils, and a boiling pot. All objects, including Assist Trophies, Pokémon, and Players within a limited range are sucked into the pot. Various items rain from above into the pot, and players fly out.

Kirby has a soft, flexible body. This allows him to be flattened or stretched, always returning to his original shape. This allows him to inflate himself, making himself more buoyant. When inflated, he can flap his arms to fly. In most games, he can do this as long as you like (though in Kirby 64, he will get tired after a while). He can exhale puffs of air as an attack, and also to deflate himself. In all the games after Kirby's Adventure, Kirby can do a move known as the "Slide Kick" while crouching as a basic attack. In Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby Squeak Squad, if Kirby uses a Slide Kick on a steep incline, he will roll down it and will roll over any enemies that get in his way.

Trivia:

Kirby's voice is provided by Makiko Omoto.

Pak's Thoughts - There's an awesome duality to Kirby that I love to death. Here comes this adorable critter who keeps a big, blank smile on his face as he strolls through the countryside, devouring everyone who gets in his way. Cute and deadly are such an awesome combination, and only Nintendo could strike the perfect balance you see in Kirby.

Top Ten begins TOMORROW!

I did not think Sonic would make this list. The second he spoke a word, he became unbearable for me. Old-school pot-bellied Sonic is still cool, though.

Master Hand is one of the main antagonists of the Super Smash Bros. series. The Master Hand is a right-handed, large, disembodied, glove-clad hand. In Super Smash Bros. it has a strange resemblance to one of Mario's gloves, though they appear less similar in later games.

It has been disputed as to what the Master Hand is; some say it is a god-like being with reality-warping power, while others say it is nothing more than a child with an overactive imagination playing with his toys (This assumption is strengthened by the fact that the hand is shown in a child's room and removing the dolls from a toy chest in the original Super Smash Bros).

He is voiced by Jeff Manning in the original, Dean Harrington in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Pat Cashman in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Master Cheif DIDN'T make it? I expected top 10 at least
Why? It's been a while since I've played the Halo games, but I don't really remember him doing anything that makes him a great character in the literary sense. He seemed very cookie-cutter.

I'll suggest that Master Chief has a lot more personality than, say, Q*bert did. (And neither character was on my list.)

And an update!

With ten lists to go, the tally count for my list stands at 1 of 25. I'm revising my prediction for my final tally down to 2 of 25 appearing.

Invader_quirk

I'm predicting Mario, Link, and Bowser in the top ten. My number one is likely up there as well. I expected to see Banjo Kazooie somewhere, although not this high up. Pac Man is also likely, I'd say...
