Why the fat jokes?

Seriously, I am at a loss to understand the number of fat jokes directed at Lisa. She is well below average weight as far as I can see, and it's hard to see anything as physically wrong when you've got Wisseau's melted candle thighs flashing the camera.

Most people in this country may be overweight but fatness doesn't grade on a curve. She's still fat. The jokes wouldn't be so necessary if Mark and Johnny didn't keep talking about how "beautiful" and "sexy" she is.

Something I had to learn to tolerate from these guys starting back in MST3K - women in these movies are either fat or "Jeez, Lady...eat a sandwich!"....  Nothing in between.

Remember....they used to call Mamie Van Doran fat, too ("Gigantress!")

Lisa/Juliette in this film looks to be a touch above average weight if you figure the 10lbs a camera can add.  But in Hollywood and in comedy, you can't see bones protruding = you're the female Walter Hudson.

It's just a joke to contrast with how much everyone in the movie says she is beautiful, and that she is clearly not fat. I don't think Mike, Kevin or Bill actually think she is fat. They had similar jokes on Megan Fox in Transformers for crying out loud.

That "Gigantress" joke was as she was walking away from the camera so I think it had to do with the rest of her....

Which having full hips (instead of looking like a 14 year old boy from the ribs down) is part of being endowed naturally rather than having implants.  A lot of guys seem to forget that.

Yeah, but weren't the Megan Fox jokes supposed to be funny because she's thin as a whittled chopstick? Lisa did have some meat on her bones, which if you ask me, is the way it should be.

I have another picture of her from that same photo shoot.  It's from a set of publicity photos for Girls Town.  Most of the set is just movie stills but a few are like the one you posted.  I should scan the ones that aren't just movie stills and post them.

Please note they say that when we see her big ass (big in a good but very conspicuous way)  I don't see it as them calling her fat.

I haven't seen the Room yet, but they could also be saying it ironically, as they did for the mom from Laserblast.

I haven't seen the Room yet, but they could also be saying it ironically, as they did for the mom from Laserblast.

When did they call the Mom in Laserblast fat?  I remeber her packing her weight loss stuff...something about if her pants give way it would be like a piano exploding....and something about her very prominate hip bones....but don't remember a fat joke.

Also, I love that one bit in the Gigantor clip where he smashes a jet for seeming no reason.  I'm just imagine the robot going "FUCK YOU JET!"
