QuoteDirector Sxv'Leithan Essex and producer Lee Cleary (The A-Team) have granted Shock Till You Drop the first images from Growl, anticipated to hit theaters in 2011.

"It's Fight Club versus werewolves," director Sxv'Leithan (pronounced "skuh-lee-than," for those scratchin' their heads over his name) tells us. "Two of my favorite things thrown in the ring to see what will come out alive. But what I love most about it is its completely character driven. I started writing and wanting to direct after seeing Aliens in theaters and how James Cameron made you care about the characters who would eventually be in peril. I love the characters in Growl like they are my family and it sucks to have to kill some of them off. But they do die some glorious deaths. I'm a total horror freak and I write with horror junkies like me in mind, creating the type of film we really want to see on the big screen."

QuoteIn Growl, a traveling underground fight club called 'The Brawlers' arrive at a derelict ghost town tucked away in the Colorado Rockies. They meet the town's only residents, the Maxilla family, who want to buy on to the fight card. But the Maxilla family's true intentions for the Brawler crew is soon revealed in teeth and claws. Some will be hunted, some will be feed, and some will become part of the family whether they like it or not.

Red is also coming out, it's Felicia Day vs. Werewolves.  I find this much cuter.

TTYT

Um, Red isn't a werewolf movie.

However, you may thinking of Red Riding Hood - which sounds awesome, too. But it has no Felicia Day.

Looks interesting, but dammit, it'd better have good makeup effects.  The last two decently budgeted werewolf movies (and by decently, I don't mean $5 crapfests like Darkwolf, where a silent Kane Hodder outacts everyone else) were, I think, Skinwalkers and The Wolfman, and while the latter was definitely better makeup-wise, there was a reason Lon Chaney, Jr. looked like a guy covered in yak hair...that was the best they could do in the 1950s.  There's no excuse anymore for having your werewolf monster look like Ted Nugent after a rough night of hunting.  And that's why I'm concerned about the "Fight Club" comparisons...I'm just getting a picture of John Cena in a steel-cage match with a Sabretooth reject.  The ONLY time guys with crazy hair and long fingernails was scary was in 1980s nightclubs, and even then it depended on what nightclubs you were going to.  At least, I think so...I was still in elementary school at the time, so I didn't go to many nightclubs.

(By the way, I don't want to beat up on Kane...I met him, he's a very nice guy, and he played a much more impressive monster in "Project Metalbeast."  Too bad the movie around it was crap.)

There was also the third Underworld movie - but then again, the werewolf designs of that franchise are pretty cool, no matter how cheesy bad the movies got.

Ah, yes.  I was thinking of just "One Monster Species Only" films at the time, not even thinking about including crossovers like Mega-Budget (TM) Van Helsing in the mix.  But yeah, I guess when you're talking "Real Werewolves" in the subject line, I should've realized Mr. Sparkly and the Fursplosions was included.

Hey, that might actually be a good band name.  I throw it out to the masses, people!   ;D

I actual prefer the more "human" looking werewolves like Lon Chaney .   Maybe that is just the image burned into my brain since childhood.

I think the wolf design from American Werewolf in London will likely remain my favorite for a long time to come.  It doesn't hurt that it's also my favorite werewolf movie.

Yeah, I much prefer the creature type designs. If it's just a wolf, that's not interesting. If it's just a Robin Williams who hasn't shaved in a few days, that's not that creative either. I like a genuine creature.

I will say that I liked the werewolf designs in Van Helsing a lot, I just hated that they were done with bad CGI.
