Okay... This is interesting: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/super8/

Not Cloverfield, but whatever it is, it looks cool.

As lng as the whole movie isn't in shakycam, I'm willing to give it a shot. I like the trailer (although the spinning door wheel as the door is being dented out was stupid), and I hope it's a cool monster mayhem type movie. Lord knows we need more of those instead of emo tween bullshit.

The viral campaign has already begun!

I'm a sucker for smart marketing.

How much you want to bet this turns out like Cloverfield, where all the interesting stuff was in the viral marketing?

Abrams didn't direct Cloverfield and it showed. He's never directed a bad movie, so I think he can pull it off.

You did realize that magnetism was in effect, right?  The thing wasn't turning the wheel as it punched a hole in the damn thing.  You can tell because of an unnatural wheel turn before it shows a close up on the door.

Huh? Magnetism? Are we in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull territory here?

Or telekinesis.  Either way, I don't think a space monster was punching a door and turning the valve at the same time.  Unless it's two alien.

"OK, Zignotz, quit punching the door, I think I've got this all figured out.  No stop punching the door.  I got this... OK, I guess you got this.  Sigh."

It doesn't matter who directed it. All of the interesting stuff was used in the viral marketing and that left us with a boring movie. Cloverfield is an obvious example of viral marketing gone terribly wrong.

Shouldn't that be, a movie with an interesting premis gone horribly wrong, but with some creative marketing department?

That's more accurate...but I wouldn't say "horribly wrong," just not nearly as awesome as the teaser made it out to be.

In all fairness, it's hardly the fault of the movie that its marketing was better than it was.

As for Abrams never directing a bad movie... well, I wouldn't call Mission Impossible III bad, but it certainly wasn't very good.

Magnets?  How do they work?

I'll probably skip this.  Not a big Abrams fan.  I shouldn't have to do homework for a movie/film  :)
