I almost picture him in his office assessing situations and forming plans like Micheal Corleone would.

Which IS something I think Richard Harris brought to the part. But he also played him too elderly and frail. That may not have been his fault, though, since Richard Harris' health wasn't so great.

If you combined the best qualities each actor brought to the part, I think we would've seen the perfect performance.
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

I learned that it's apparently easier to say, "Accio Firebolt!" instead of "Accio Golden Egg!", which, you know, wouldn't have TOTALLY DONE THE JOB MEANT SIMPLER AND QUICKER!!!!

Darth Geek

Yeah, or that spell Hermoine used to freeze the fat kid in HP1. He could have frozen the dragon and just walked over and picked up the egg.

Yeah, I thought of that one too. There was probably an enchantment in place to protect it, but you know that had to cross Harry's mind. ^_^

My guess is the dragon's hide would be too tough for a spell like that to penetrate.

But before anyone thinks I'm just geeking out here, I do think those are legitimate plot holes, because none of these things were MENTIONED.

More importantly, they weren't even tried. Harry is only a fourth year, after all, you'd think he'd at least try more ideas, successful or no.

I imagine that dragons would be magical beasts and would have limits to what magic spells would be effective against them, but that doesn't prevent Harry from making a force field around himself that he could walk to the egg. Or maybe summon his invisibility cloak instead of his broom. I really don't get how Harry flying is some kind of plan against a DRAGON, when flying is what dragons are best at! Damnit, I need a girlfriend...

May I direct your attention to,  http://community.livejournal.com/m15m/15640.html#cutid1 ?

Whoa!  We even got one of the lines the same.  LMFAO  I'll bet whoever wrote that had the same stepfather as I did at one time.  Dude got around. LOL

Well, the book did it a little differently: Harry never left the stadium. He still summoned his broom, although it wasn't really a surprise since before that there was part of a chapter talking about him and Hermione practicing the charm. Actually, right before that Professor Flitwick had mentioned that they were going to be learning summoning and banishing charms. Funny how crap always worked out like that in those books! ^_^

But yeah, it was more of a stand-off against the dragon than a chase, and made better use of Harry's agility on a broomstick instead of just speed. Although I'll admit it might not have been so exciting on screen. Sort of like how they cut out the sphinx giving him a riddle in the hedgemaze. Again, works on the page, but it would've stopped the movie dead. Well, dead-ER, because that hedgemaze was a whole lot of fog and very little else.

ShadowDog, I half thought you really were trying to reference that site.  Well done on the coincidence!

Darth Geek, he couldn't summon his invisibility cloak because not everybody knows he has it and it played a bigger part in the 4th Book than the movie lets on, and, HAVE YOU READ THE BOOKS?!!!!  YOU REALLY SHOULD.  Some of the questions are answered in there.....but, I agree with NRRork who said these things are plotholes because none of this was mentioned.  ....Come to think of it, I direct everybody to the Cleolinda Livejournal m15m site because it references how this movie didn't make sense because it left out VERY CRUCIAL PARTS OF THE PLOT that were in the book.

NRRork; did the book say that he couldn't accio the egg?  I don't remember...  The Fourth Book is not my favourite.  Also, you can NEVER talk about Harry Potter too much!  EVAR!

ShadowDog

Well, the 4th book is one of my favorites even though it's the most flawed, plotwise.  I mean, why are you going through all this convoluted boolsheet just so Harry can win the tournament just so he can touch a port key when all you had to do was make a book a port key, summon Harry to your office, and ASK HIM TO HAND YOU THE BOOK.  Fucking DUH.  It makes zero sense.

Still a fun read though.  As long as you pull out your brain and just read with your spinal column once you get to the end and everything gets explained.

....Hmmmm, I've never thought of that, BUT, lets just say that, had that even occured to Jr., it didn't occur to Voldemort, AND, according to the book, he needed more strength, so, those extra months of Wormtail milking Nagini to nourish Voldemort would have been better because then it would have been a fair fight and Harry couldn't have just won....besides, how long did it take to get the bone out of the grave?....that could have been a last minute thing.  Also, maybe, as we noticed from the forcible bow that Voldemort made Harry take and his fondness of old, powerful magic as mentioned in the Book series, he really had a specific plan and since he's rather a formal fellow, things had to go accordingly.  I mean, there's reasons is all.  :keeps telling self this:

I don't think it did. I'm just speculating, but it seems like they'd do something like that, otherwise it'd be too easy, they could all just do that. If a fourth-year student is learning the summoning charm, the other three would definitely know it.

The timing doesn't bother me, Barty Jr. could have just wanted to do this until any specific time they needed Harry.  But if you think about the number of things that had to fall into place just right to get Harry to touch the Tri-Wizard Cup first there's no way that was the easiest route.

Still makes for an entertaining story, it just makes the bad guys look really really dumb.  LOL

The Tri-Wizard Tournament has worse scheduling than MLB/NBA/NHL playoffs.  Seriously, an entire year to do three quick events?  They could have been done in a week.

Yeah, but, see, the other schools didn't get there until late October, and I forgot when the dragon task was, but, you forget about the Yule Ball, and see, the dragons were mothers who were protecting all their eggs, so, they thought that somebody was trying to steal one of their real eggs, so, they were even more ferocious trying to defend them, and then, they had two months to figure out THAT clue AND come up with a way to do that challange, and then, this was made a big deal in the Book, there was no Quiddich for the students throughout the year because they had to wait for the hedges to grow in the Quiddich Field.  The hedge wasn't ready until the end of the year.

....It made a lot more sense in the book than the movie.

They had to wait for the hedges to grow?  What, there's no magic that makes things grow faster?   At the students must have been pretty annoyed they couldn't play Quiddich for an event they couldn't see and took about 10 minutes.
