Doctor Who?

I am not a fan of the MI movies but I have to say if Brad Bird puts the same spirit of fun and style he does in his animated movies into this one I will be going to see it.  Here's hoping it turns out good.

Oh, man, Tom Cruise and Brad Bird on a set together? Yikes.

They're Tommy and The Bird
Yes, Tommy and The Bird
One is a genius
The other's insane.
They're Tommy and The Bird, Bird, Bird, Bird
Bird, Bird, Bird, Bird
Thetans!

Thanks. I've been having a lot of fun lately with the song parodies, for some reason.

Honestly, I think it's a complete waste of Brad Bird.  I'd rather see him do something original than take on something as formulaic as the MI series.

Agreed. If Tom Cruise was interested in making the M:I movies anything more than The Tom Cruise Show (which is entirely against the point of the TV show) then I would be interested in what Brad Bird could do with it.
And my previous point, is Tom Cruise going to really be okay with Brad Bird being director, given how "strong coffee" he's supposed to be? I would just hate for Brad to go through all of this and then get kicked off the movie (or leave in a fury) and it looking bad for him.

Well I am sure Pixar would not hold it against him.  I don't see how we can lose here,if Brad Bird does a good job and Cruise doesn't get in the way we get a cool spy thriller.  if it doesn't work out Bird can just go back to making awesome movies for Pixar.

But there are a dozen or so other directors who can make competent action-thrillers starring Tom Cruise.  Brad Bird seems like he might be something special and unless this turns out to be completely awesome, it's a waste of his particular talent.

I like the idea that every MI movie is in the hands of a different director with a different vision (though none of them are particularly great), so I'm interested to see this.  I think that Brad Bird largely does get to do his own thing, so I think it's OK to do a big blockbuster every once in a while.  The original films are always going to be there.

But I understand how you feel.  I'm sure that Toy Story 3 is going to be great, but I just can't get all that interested because after Ratatouille, Wall-e and Up, I want them to do nothing but original stuff with each movie.

That said, Marvel should have tried to vet him for ANYTHING.  Fantastic Four seems a little on the nose.  How about... HULK,  I bet he would do an awesome Hulk.  I'm not sure why, except that there might be a fun violent Hulk movie that has a perfect mix of pathos, humour and action.  And as heroes go, Hulk is pretty up there for cartoony-ness.

I just wonder how much of his own thing he'll get around Tom Cruise.
