QuoteReelzChannel got the chance to speak to director/producer JJ Abrams about some of this upcoming projects, including a movie based on Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series and a possible "Cloverfield" sequel.

Regarding "Cloverfield 2," Abrams said: "There is an idea that has come up that we're exploring. So we'll see if it's worth doing then hopefully we'll get a chance to do it."

He added: "We have some cool ideas and Drew Goddard, the writer and Matt Reeves the director have sort of cooked something up so we're... you know, hopefully that'll get a chance to happen."

Reeves previously spoke about some of his ideas for the sequel, where he would not continue the story, but instead make it a different take on the original movie, as seen from another point of view.

Thorns of Crimson Death

I'm not opposed to it being a different perspective of the first movie but I'd like more info on the monster itself.  I'm not saying go the whole cliched route of the scientist in a room filled with monitors and shit like that going over exactly what it is but some kind of back-story to it would be nice.  There's also a lot of speculation regarding a scene at the end of the film.  It's older footage that was recorded over while taken on the ferris wheel on Coney Island.  In the background you can see an object plummet from the sky and land in the water, it's brief but you can catch it.  A lot of people are saying that that's the monster so their conclusion is that it came from space.  This contradicts what Abrams himself has stated that it "has been asleep underwater for thousands of years".  So yeah, in short, I want to know more about it's origin.  Also the shaky cam wasn't bad for me but I wouldn't mind seeing the sequel filmed in a more traditional way.  Or even have the movie be about the aftermath of the whole situation, how the government handled the disaster and what happened to the monster.

Well, there's a bunch of backstory fragments from all the viral marketing for the movie.  Let me go dig that out....ahhh, there you go:

I found a really good summary of all the viral marketing for the flick here.  It's a good read if you want a few questions answered, and even though it's very long, it's great for those of us who weren't following along with the marketing.

Thanks for the link.  Most of the stuff that was on there I was already aware of but that Manga was pretty interesting.

QuoteJJ Abrams, co-producer of the hit monster film "Cloverfield," said that a sequel may or may not happen and revealed that he's more inclined to do something with his "Cloverfield" partners, writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves, other than a follow-up.

"We're talking about it," Abrams said of "Cloverfield 2" during an interview at the Fox upfront presentation for advertisers in New York. "But the truth is there's another idea that I'd rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It's a whole new thing."

Abrams added, "So my dream is to work with [Goddard and Reeves] again, but do something that's [new]. Having said that, Drew and Matt both, separately, have really good ideas for what [Cloverfield 2] could be. So I don't know. We'll see. I know the studio wants it."

Looks like it's going to be a prequel: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/05/04/more-details-about-jj-abrams-secret-super-8-movie-revealed/

I loved Cloverfield in the theater, but I hope this isn't too much of the same thing.

So more shakycam? That just kneecapped my interest.

Doctor Who?

I saw Cloverfield and Rambo in theaters on the same day.  It was a fun day and I enjoyed Cloverfield so I am looking forward to this.

Do you think JJ and Spielberg go glasses shopping together?

Cripes, grow him a beard and recede his hairline, and you've got the exact same person.  20 bucks says Spielberg went back in time, stole his younger self, and now forces him to make the sort of movies he would've made in the 70s if he had the ungodly sums of money he has now.

Shouldn't there be a lense flare in that photo?

Yay, another 90 minutes of shakycam babbling douchebag crappola with 45 seconds of monster footage.  Fecking genius.

And yes, I'll buy the bloody Rifftrax. :)

Apparently JJ is now denying that the secret trailer has anything to do with Cloverfield.
