Well my thing is I get this whole vibe from Hollywood in the past 10 to 15 years that they really don't like America or Americans.  I don't know I'm not upset or angry but it does make me wonder since they don't make any real money here and they don't really seem to like us why do they even bother?  I don't know it just strikes me as odd.

I think you missed half of the info I posted:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Total US Gross    $402,111,870
International Gross    $434,185,358

Avatar
Total US Gross    $747,292,481
International Gross    $1,976,000,000

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Total US Gross    $301,959,197
International Gross    $635,540,708

Up
Total US Gross    $293,004,164
International Gross    $434,481,073

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Total US Gross    $296,623,634
International Gross    $406,000,000

Those are not insignificant amounts of money. Most movies would be considered a success on those numbers alone.
FINE

And release dates are calculated in such a cold, mathematical way also. It just might be that traditionally a movie does better released on one date in the US and another in Australia, or what have you.

Sorry that is how I feel.  I know I am an idiot so can we move on.  Sorry if i am coming off a bit snippy but I have not been able to leave the house or talk to another soul outside of it for about two and half months(I think)and I think it has put me a bit on edge, sorry.

So again Hollywood doesn't need our money and they clearly don't want us going to their movies, why are they still here?  Why don't they move to France or China?

I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or trying to make a point.

Are you really feeling so slighted because we got one movie about a week ahead of you?

Have never read one of his posts?

American population:  about 300 million

World population:  about 6 billion

I'm surprised that movies ARE still released in America first, considering that it just makes financial sense to release them overseas first...or, in the age of the internet, all at once.

Do you really think American movies are made for 'American audiences' and not the world?  that thought had never crossed my mind personally.

In short, yes, I do believe the target audience is strictly American just as a foreign made film is specifically made for that country's citizens in mind. If a movie made in America does well overseas then all the better.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Anyway....

So, no one who has seen it yet sat through the credits for the cameo?  Haven't seen it mentioned.

Of course I did - I just avoid posting spoilers needlessly.

Mystery of the release date:  solved:

QuoteIn a rare move, Paramount released "Iron Man 2" overseas first, to try to take advantage of another weekend of possible box-office receipts before the start of the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. The World Cup, held only once every four years, is expected to capture the attention of most of the world. Conversely, the World Cup garners relatively minor curiosity in the U.S., so studios didn't seem scared off from sticking with the movie's original stateside release date of May 7.

So, Paramount doesn't hate America.  Soccer does.

In retrospect, though, due to the pirating mentioned and the fact that America does account for a HUGE amount of box office revenue (according to Edward J. Grug's figures, about half of what the entirety of the rest of the world spends), I bet that this is won't become a common occurrence.

I would love to see a Godzilla movie on the big screen.

I saw Godzilla 2000 (the one where he fights the UFO that looks like a shiny bedpan) in my local cineplex. A great experience. I also saw the original restored Gojira at a nearby arthouse theater, but I wasn't early enough and had to sit in the front row. Uncomfortable, but still worth it.

You've got it backwards - America hates soccer. Well, ambivalent, at least. Anyway, I know the World Cup is a huge deal, but people can't take two hours away from soccer to go see a huge blockbuster movie? Crazy, man.

There's a whole lot of drinking after the games.  For the winning and losing fans.

Same, I've totally avoided spoilers or plot points because most of the people here haven't had a chance to see it yet.
