Holy crap, Roger Corman made a good movie!

TTYT

I'm not joking - though I will warn you: This film is not a fun movie, even though it has William Shatner in it. This is a rather nasty - but damn truthful - film about racism, and the N-word flies liberally (though always in a negative context.)

It's called The Intruder. Shatner (pre-Star Trek) is a racist mystery man who comes into a southern town about to integrate its high school and stirs up trouble. It's clearly still low-budget, but this time the lightning actually strikes in the right place for Corman.

Roger Corman made a number of good movies.   :)
A few (very few compared to his output), and all a long time ago. Which means he learned nothing making them or his movies would have gotten BETTER over time.

Doctor Who?

Really?  I must have seen about two or three dozen Corman movies in my time and I am having trouble thinking of one, what are there names?

I've brought this one up before - especially when people started screaming bloody murder when they announced they were giving Corman an Honorary Oscar.

He definitely deserved it for this film.

I don't think that holds true.  Many move makers do their best work at the beginning of their careers and never match up to it.  The good stuff he did make came a little later in his career, too.  As for the bad movies he made, sure he made a whole bunch of crap, but those movies are really just cheap and lazy cash-ins aiming for the drive-in market.

You've seen 24-36 Corman movies? I don't think I've seen that many and I've seen some really good films by him.  In no particular order:

The above mentioned Intruder
Tomb of Ligeia
House of Usher
The Pit and the Pendulum
St Valentines Day Massacre
Bucket of Blood
The Raven
The Masque of Red Death

Doctor Who?

Yeah I only figured out a short time ago that alot of the movie PBS used to play in the afternoons when I was a kid were all made by the same man,Roger Corman.  I'm pretty sure MST3K could have just done Corman movies and never touched anyone else given the number of bad movies he made.

And - sorry that I'm repeating myself but - also give Shatner (and his director) credit that this is one of his best performances.

It may seem cliche by now on this board, but I think we all know exhibit A on that point.

Haven't seen all of the Intruder, but I took a look at some clips before when PSCD brought it up.  Keep meaning to watch the rest, as it did seem to have that spark of interest that most Corman doesn't without the mockery of professionals.

Yes, most of the Joel episodes.  I think I've seen every Mike episode though.  Still I don't pay attention to the directors, except for Ed Wood and Coleman Francis.

The Lady Rommel

I love his movies, even the bad ones.

In high school out English/Lit teacher had us watch The Pit and the Pendulum and The House of Usher.  I tell you, that Edgar Allen Poe was one messed up dude.

Anyway, they are good.
I don't see race.  People tell me I'm white and I believe them because I watch Antiques Roadshow.
