Ah, my Over the Top DVD arrived today from Amazon.com.   And, quite surprisingly, the blurb on the back about the movie references Rocky TWICE and has not critic quotes.   Huh...... go figure.

I think Stallone and co. were banking on people seeing stallone all sweaty and determined, while some hyper-cheesy 80's song blared in the background..

Really, that's all we needed in the late 80's

I bought mine when it was first announced, but as I bought a R1 version, I might not get it for a couple more weeks.  Bloody Atlantic ocean.

I picked up a copy today.

I have a feeling that even though its widescreen, its in 4:3 letterbox widescreen. Not the usual 16:9 anamorphic widescreen.

I believe older copies of Top Gun were like this too.

Edit: Nope, I was wrong. It is in 16:9 ratio

I've owned my copy for months.  I was at Best Buy, actually looking to see if they had some sort of Jean-Claude Van Damme boxset I could get for cheap, and happened across Over The Top paired with Demolition Man, and Cobra paired with Tango and Cash.  Both DVDs were 9.99.  What a great day for DVD purchases.  Hehe.

You might've just bought yourself 4 rifftrax movies, right there (even though I personally feel Demolition Man isn't entirely riffable).  You lucky dog!

I agreee... I remeber Kurt Russel's line early on in describing Stallone's character 'Armani with a badge' lol... and let's not forget who was playing Sly' sister, Teri Hatcher...

I did the same thing awhile back, though I just wanted to watch cheesy stallone movies after seeing "Rocky Balboa" and the rest of the Rocky series again...

Yeah, I actually enjoyed Demolition Man, although I was working as an usher at a movie theater when it came out, and I found that I enjoyed it a lot more in bits and pieces than I did when I finally saw the whole thing.  Still, as a movie, it's a lot better than Over The Top.  Though somehow, nowhere near as awesome.

Tango and Cash would definitely be a good one for riffing as well, but the mother lode of these would have to be Cobra, in my opinion.

I just realized that this is a Golan-Globus production!!  :o

If you recall, Golan-Globus gave us Alien from L.A..

I think we're in for a 'real treat'

I don't think cobra would be a good one to riff....not that it's not a horrible action cop flick, but just that it involves a lot of relatively cruel murders of innocent victims (unlike Swayzee's trademark throat tear) which would probably not mesh too well with the more lighthearted rifftrax style

Granted, that's a valid point (when I sat down to watch it a few months ago, I was surprised by how much it reminded me of a Friday the 13th movie), although there are so many moments of sublime ridiculousness (such as the robot/homeless people montage, to name one), I think it might...MIGHT outweigh the darker aspects of the movie.  Maybe not, though.

J-Proof, Fyi...you need to deinterlace or at least Inverse Telecine those previews to get rid of the combing artifacts.

P.S. I can't wait till this is released!

No can do actually - it's something that Flash just does. It's not that we don't do things at the highest element quality. It's jsut something that Flash Video happens to spit out at us =)

Sorry about that =(

[Edit]

It's /very/ noticeable in previews where there's tons of motion - like the LOTR or Star Wars previews. There were no interlacing issues in the raw video elements - but Flash's conversion to flv caused the combing.

THats probably because the raw MPG file is being played with DVD player software that is preforming the inverse telecine or deinterlacing.
If you open the raw mpg in a video editor, like MPEG2VCR, it will show the combing lines too. Its not the flash coversion that is adding the interclace (combing lines).
No worries, its not that big of a deal.

P.S. if you check out some of the previews on my page, you will see that the interlace lines are not there because I inverse telecined the video.

Edit: Also, the interlace lines are only noticeable when there is side to side movement. This is why it is more apparent during action scenes.

yeah we understand the issue - we have to do this whenever working on projects for Legend Films. The artifacts you mentioned don't appear in the raw video files - we make sure everything is crystal clear in the raw files because these files get used on Demo DVDs (which we send out to various other businesses).

The problem we see is really just due to the flash video conversion. Just trust me on this one ;)  The source files are beautiful lol

[EDIT]
Yeah - your video files are not involving flash player - they are wmv files. You notice some extreme artifacts when you try to embed these as a converted flv into a swf file.
