TTYT

Saw it on Monday. It's stupid as hell, but admittedly enjoyable if you take your brain out before sitting down to watch. The only thing I found that I couldn't get over was the music, which was so out of place, and just bad music in its own right. Why does almost every big movie nowadays have music that's just a shitty clone of the score for Crimson Tide? Jeezus, even the crapfest Cutthroat Island got a score from John Debney that was worthy of an Oscar. Now it's just "Hot-swappable scores for any genre! Giant robots! Ancient Greece! Superheroes! Just change a few notes of your main theme and hope the moviegoing public is too stupid to notice anything!" I'm fucking sick of it. Albert Glasser's scores are better than the dreck that graced this movie. I mean, christ - even the original Clash of the Titans managed to get a score by Laurence Rosenthal!

I will say this - The owner of the theater I went to's got balls. I noticed they'd had it in 3D during the 1st week of release, but they only had it in 2D when I went to go see it. The woman at the ticket counter said flat out, "Yeah, the 3D was just bad."

Besides the Bubo gag (come on, it garnered its own constellation in the original!), for which I wanted to throw my popcorn at the screen, it was what I thought it would be, dumb & fun! Perseus fighting his way through the dorsal carapace of a giant scorpion?!! Awesome!!!

I cannot comment on the 3D as I caught it on a Marcus UltraScreen here.

Fiennes' Hades *thumbs-up*

Agreed, though not as hot as Io

OK, for the rest of the film. Oh Dear.

TTYT

Is it wrong for me to be annoyed at the fact that the chick who played Kyra in Chronicles of Riddick was wasted in her role as Andromeda in this movie?

TTYT

Well, considering the Director's Cut of Chronicles... was more entertaining than this movie...

It's kind of wrong for you to remember the names of characters in The Chronicles of Riddick.

:D

She was also Electro Gwen on Angel.

I'm still annoyed that they didn't go with the girl who played Jack in Pitch Black for that role. But I digress...

That's where I knew her from! If only she'd been wearing that red latex get up, I'd have twigged immediately.

Rhiana Griffith? She did do voicover as "Jack" for the Dark Fury animated short (by the guy who created Aeon Flux, Peter Chung) that bridged Pitch Black and Chronicles, if that's any consolation.

But I still find it weird that the actress with a name that I would've guessed was Greek in origin (Alexa) being utterly wasted in a movie about ancient Greece. Oh, well, whatever.

Tripe

Of course, Andromeda was Ethiopian...

Ssshh. You had me at "red latex get up."

Of course, Andromeda was Ethiopian...

Except there was an Ethiopia other than the one in Africa.....

And she was completely wasted in this.  Might as well phoned it in.

Hate to quote Uncle Wiki on this but I'm watching Nick Clegg at the mo and it's not inaccruate here:

QuoteThe geographical name, in its Greek form Greek Letters not recognised, indeed first appears in Classical sources, in which it refers to the regions south of Egypt and Libya. It appears twice in the Iliad and three times in the Odyssey. The Greek historian Herodotus specifically uses it to describe the Upper Nile region,[2] an area including Sudan and (in principle) modern Ethiopia.

For all intents and purposes it's the same thing.

Andromeda is presented as lily white in most of her representations but I doubt the people hearing the stories imagined her so.

Wouldn't she still have been of mixed Mediterranean heritage, like Alexander or Cleopatra, and lighter-skinned? Certainly not Causcasian, though.
