At no point did he say, "Gravity is pulling me down!"

"Crap in a hat! I forgot all about gravity for a moment there!" Thus my main issue with radio dramas: people saying things they'd never say in a movie or book, let alone real life. "Say Lois, that's an awfully swell looking periwinkle blue dress with frilly accents you're wearing today." "Why thank you, Clark. That new crimson necktie sure looks sharp with that your navy suit."

Does that actually happen in the Superman radio show? I've never heard people do that in other audio dramas.

I may have exaggerated a wee bit.

You have not been listening to good radio dramas then.  There's no shortage of crap TV shows (see thread on topic) and there are good and bad radio shows as well.  I suggest you just try listening to a couple of old Gunsmoke eps here:

http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Gunsmoke_Singles

You can stream it or put it on your MP3 player to listen to later (I listen to them at work).

Then reevaluate if you really dislike it.  Of course, maybe you just dislike radio altogether.  If you already dislike getting your news and other information from the radio then you probably just don't take to that medium.  Personally I'll take radio over TV any day of the week

So.... Green Lantern huh?

Jebus, I was just making with the yuk yuks. In fact, I've never listened to any radio drama, and I doubt I will anytime soon, unless I run out of movies, TV shows, books, and comics to get my fiction from.

And, no offense, but audio drama of a western sounds like about the dullest thing I can think of.

Well, at least you are open minded about it.

Western movies and TV series bore me, so a medium where I can't even see the horses and cowboy hats definitely isn't gonna work for me. Growing up, radio was just a wasteland of crap music, wacky toilet-flushing DJs, and ignorance-spreading call-in shows, so I'll admit I have an inherent unfair prejudice against radio.

Tripe

You so needed Radio 4 in your childhood.

Poor radio is a fair trade-off in exchange for adequate dental care.  ;D

Radio 5 has gotten pretty cool now.
I get the impression the same applies to Radio 2 these days as well.

It's actually more popular than Radio 1 now, which is exclusively the domain of the "new and hip".  2 is for the slightly older crowd.

You'll have to take that up with Cumulus Media.

Plus ca change but I was under the impression that it no longer also meant "and tired of life and interesting things"

This shit discussion entertains me more than Ryan Reynolds can. Unless he's on fire, that is.

Then again Radio can have it's advantages.  I think that  maybe The Star Wars 'prequels' ( Phantom Menace in particular) would've done far better as radio dramas.  Especially those long drawn out talking scenes where a bunch of actors are sitting around talking about events rather than actually having the movie actually show things occurring.  Even if it IS cheaper to do so...
