My Netflix queue is empty.  I need to continue filling it.  So suggest some movies, but with qualifications:

No westerns
No horror films
No crime / mafia movies
Nothing that takes place before the 20th century.

Those genres aren't my cup of tea.

In Bruges is really good, but it is sort of a crime movie.

How about Once?  A fantastic little movie.

If you've never seen The Great Escape, that's one to see.

Doctor Who?

HHHmmm.

This is hard.  You just eliminated just about every good movie I can think of.  Almost all of them have one of those elements in them.  Most good sci-Fi movies have horror as part of the story.  Most good comedies has some sort of crime going on and the same goes for drama.  Also a lot of good movies take place before the year 1900.  I am stumped :-\

I am going to have to think about this.  I really can't think of anything off of the top of my head.

Go ahead and shoot out some names.  If horror is part of the story, that's different from it being an out and out horror movie like, say, Halloween.  If a comedy has some crime to it, that's far different from The Godfather.

The idea is that the horror or crime is not the center of the plot.

I would say try some of the Godzilla movies they can be goofy fun.  Then again some of them do have people stealing stuff in them.  That is the trouble most movies that are not chick flicks have someone committing a crime at some point.

I think you're missing the point.

Office Space is one of my favorite movies, but the central conflict of the movie is an embezzling scheme.  But it's really a comedy about how much working in an office sucks.

25th Hour was a movie about a guy who got busted for dealing drugs, and his last night of freedom before going to jail for 7 years, but I liked it.

The Godfather and Goodfellas are movies I detest.  The movies are about criminals, and celebrating and honoring them.

I guess what I should say is "no mafia movies".

Doctor Who?

I don't think The Godfather or Goodfellas was about honoring gangsters.  Everyone in them ended up dead or losing their souls.  If anything I think they are a warning not to act like the people in them.  Then again to each there own.

Never saw Goodfellas but if you think the first two Godfather movies are "celebrating" the mob....you really missed the point.  It's about how Michael started out a good man who drove away everyone who loved him and destroyed himself by becoming everything he said he hated....even though he believed he was doing it to make the Family "legit someday".

But if gangster movies are sympathetic, they might as well be celebratory. I don't feel sorry for any of those fuckers. I think Coppola made those movies for his gangster friends.

Oh yeah, I should've mentioned that.  No foreign films.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.  That's a good start.  Now if I can only find where that copy of The Invention of Lying went.  How did I lose that?
