QuotePenelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp in the Rob Marshall-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, reports Heat Vision.

Scheduled for a release on May 20, 2011, the fourth installment revolves around the Fountain of Youth. Depp is reprising the role of Captain Jack Sparrow and Cruz's character is expected to be "Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways."

The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced film was written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot. Shooting will take place in Hawaii this summer.

Cruz starred in Marshall's last film, Nine.

As long as it's not a musical, I'm just happy we'll probably get another extremely riffable movie.

I agree about avoiding all things musical. I don't want to have to sit through Depp singing another note.

I wouldn't quite call myself a fan of Cruz but I'm not completely against her being in this movie for a number of very specific reasons.

Changing directors is always a risk for any franchise, which is why I'm hoping if Marshall botches this up we'll still have Gore Verbinski's Bioshock to fall back on (if they ever get around to making it).

I'm more concerned about the whole "Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways." Since most male Hollywood writers think that making a woman strong and equal means make them complain and argue incessantly with the male character, who we already sympathize with.

Though she's pretty awesome in her native language, I struggle to think of a good English-language movie that Penelope Cruz has been in.

I don't think that'll change with a 4th Pirates movie.

I don't remember her speaking Spanish in Blow (co-starring with Depp I might add)?

and considering the subject matter and Spain's involvement in the Caribbean , I have a feeling she'll be speaking a ton of Spanish if she joins.

Tripe

See I thought you meant those other Pirates movies. And I thought "Fairly controversial but not out of the realms of the possible based on her choices sometimes".

Who cares if she speaks English as long as she speaks "oops my top just came off a little"-ese?

That's another thing about her Spanish movies.  She's a lot nuder.

Eww, no thanks. Penelope Cruz is the opposite of sexy in my opinion. Not attractive at all. Also, she's a Spanish woman which probably means she's full of herself, confrontational, and openly racist.

Want to know something funny? The first 4 letters of her name, "Pene", means "penis" in Spanish. That's especially weird if you think about that while looking at the shape of her nose.
I really do like pie.

Lousy Spaniards, all of them are racist, even against Spaniards!

Wait, what?

An extensive Google search has revealed to me that the name Penelope can sometimes mean "dream weaver".

Wait, what?

Yes, exactly. If you're a black, Arab, Asian, or Latino (No, Spaniards aren't Latinos. They're white people.) citizen of Spain, they will be openly and unashamedly racist to you.

Hmm, didn't know those were Spaniards.  Damn racists, they all look alike.

How can they make a fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie if they never made a second or third? LA LA LA LA LA  I'm not listening. That would be like making a second Matrix movie and calling it The Matrix: Reloaded or something stupid like that.
