Ryan Reynolds as Lantern, Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Val Kilmer as Batman...  Do these execs and directors ever watch these actors before they hire them?  They're centering a massive film franchise around the guy from "Waiting" and "The Amnityville Horror" remake?  Who was their second choice, Dane Cook?

So, I have to ask- is this one actually gonna happen, then? Or is this like the Jack Black Green Lantern rumor?

I'd put this at 95%+ probability.
1) In a recent lawsuit, DC used the movie as part of their defense and if the movie didn't come out, that might cause that case to be reopened.

2) It's got a release date: June 17, 2011. Which is about 3 weeks after the Thor release.

It's possible that Reynolds might get bird flu and pass away between now and then, but otherwise, it looks like he's the lead.

As annoying as it is that this might effect the Deadpool movie I think he's a good choice, they're going to have to go the Iron-Man route with this and make it kind of 50's throwback so his power doesn't look too silly and I think he'll do well at that.

I really do want to withhold judgment, but it just doesn't feel right.  I have nothing against Reynolds (He's my favourite Cheat Commando) but he's just sort of... dull.  I just don't see it.  Maybe Kyle Rayner but not Hal Jordon.  Still, I would like to be surprised.

I wonder if Sinestro will be the bad guy.

Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Could be worse.

Blake Lively (who?) as Carol Ferris. Yeahbuhuh?

Moving on... Sinestro. The rumor's been Jackie Earle Haley but I just don't see it. If it's not Hugo Weaving I'll be sorely disappointed:
Spoiler

Come on WB! It's so obvious.
An extremely unlikely but awesome alternative? Daniel Day Lewis. I DRINK YOUR POWER RING!

Any thoughts on Hector Hammond, who looks to be the Earth-based villain of the film? Who can be slimy and menacing entirely from a seated position? Sort of an evil Professor X now that I think of it. Jeez, how many big-foreheaded, mustache-sporting villains can one superhero have? Did Hal ever fight Snidely Whiplash too? Look out GL, it's Vincent Price!

Looks like Blake Lively as Carol Ferris as Dr. Girlfriend. I don't know anything about Green Lantern. Was she the inspiration for Dr. Girlfriend?
VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

LOVE the Hugo Weaving suggestion. Although that means there would have to be three of them, because apparently Weaving only does trilogies now.

Isn't he busy making a shitty version of Deadpool?

No, that is still in the early stages of scripting. So it'll be a while. I never followed Deadpool in the comics, but after Hulk Vs.  I love the character and definitely think it would be a fun movie if it kept that kind of tone.

Update: Now they're saying Peter Sarsgaard may be playing Hector Hammond. No complaint here.

Wouldn't that require two V For Vendetta sequels? Alan Moore's beard would burst into flames at the thought.

Anyway, I can't imagine that they aren't planning for Green Lantern to be a franchise, with Sinestro going rogue in the second movie and becoming the Big Bad in the third.

My choice for Sinestro

Imagine if they went with Chris Pine for Hal and Zach Quinto as Sinestro? How amazingly confusing.

No, he already made the shitty version of Deadpool.  ;)  I think Reynolds genuinely wants to make amends for that.

RobtheBarbarian

I heard that too. If I thought the power to make it not shitty were ultimately in his hands, I'd be excited.

Whatever do you mean? It's not like Fox has ever screwed up a Marvel movie before... *cough*

Best Deadpool ever.
