A message concerning celebrity guests.

In response to small hints of possible celebrity guest riffers and Troll2 with that one guy, I feel the need to issue a warning on behalf of most of us MST fans.

I must say up front that I have not yet seen the Troll 2 rifftrax and therefor have no feelings toward that one guy.

Please, for the love of God, be CAREFUL. They have got to be FANTASTIC riffers and not just celebrities. If you feel the need to expand outside of Kevin and Bill, you had best be working your butt off to get Trace, Frank, or Joel on board. It takes a special kind of comedian to be able to riff a film, and many fans and users don't realize that (no offense), so I would also suggest not paying much heed to polls etc. I understand that the suggest-a-guest polls are just out of curiosity, but I think that celebrity guests would be an enormously horrendous mistake.

Unless they pick someone who sounds pleasing on the radio (i.e. Fran Dresher, Harvey Firestein, Rachael Ray, any old man from cajun country, etc.), count me out!

nah it wouldnt i dont want this to be some small cult thing i want it to get HUGE.  Mike has a lot of common sense (it seems) so i dont think he will pick anyone that doesnt help out the cause.

Lowtax worked out better than my initial reaction. Mike isn't going to want to ruin his own projects so I have a reasonable amount of confidence in his selections.  I bet a lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes we never hear about.

It's always been our intention to have some new and exciting and unexpected guests.  It's also our intention to have a high quality product.  Therefore, plenty of potential guests are ruled out due to their inclusion equaling suckiness, ie Fran Drescher.  People have given Rich the (well deserved) benefit of the doubt, it seems, and hopefully any future guest riffers will be offered the same.

I say if you don't like it, don't buy it.  Speak with your pocket book.  If you're dead set on giving "celebrities" a chance, then don't buy them.  If the majority feel that way and the majority don't buy the tracks, I think the PTB will get the idea.

I personally would like to see more people than just the old crew riff.  I don't like something awful so I wasn't sure about Lowtax but I figured Mike wouldn't let the worst of SA come over here and ruin his street cred, yo.

This isn't MST3k 2.0, so why wouldn't Mike want to get other, non-MST people on board?

That kind of opinion is pretty elitist, IMO.

It's in the FAQ... and yet the discussion continues, especially on the MST3K LiveJournal community. There is also a RiffTrax community but it's not quite as active, oddly enough.

this is the oly board i hang out on (obviously by my post count) im to lazy to care what others think. 

I dont know why people keep thinking we got to be boxed in by mikes past works.  Rifftrax opens such a huge door i say take us whereever it leads.
