II had the same problem with alt.fan.mst3k.  After about a few days of reading that, I started to hate mst3k, every fan of the show and all it stood for so I told myself to back away from the usenet.

That's 'cause usenet is less "tolerant" of noobs than message-boards are (after all, it is slightly more difficult to "find" a usenet group than a message-board, as you have to install a usenet reader instead of the ready-made internet browser).

Be that as it may, since a-f-mst3k is a "dead" group, consider youself lucky to not have stumbled upon alt.tv.mst3k or rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc.

I wasn't calling it "the usenet."  I said "back away from the usenet."  Much like one would say, "Back away from the car."  Meant to be a joke, silly.

It actually may have been rec.arts that I read. I can't remember.  It was years ago and I blocked that out.  I know a guy who spent a major part of his life wherever it was and was way more attacthed, I could ask.

Naw, that's OK...as I was just being sardonic (of usenet, not you).

And it was the rec.arts variety I read back then.  Sorry about that.  Back in the day when I was a big usenetter (is that a word?), I read a variety of alt.fan and rec. groups, but I thought the rec groups I read were about real hobbies, guess not.

User of usenet vs usenetter?
Don't know, won't try.

Yeah, the usenet names often don't reflect their nature. Sometimes, though, the reading of the posts are good for S&G, and I often post/read there for entertainment (if I am really, really bored).
