I dont see why directors cannot get good special effects, good acting and a real plot in their movie.   CGI alone does not cut it.

I am trying to think of recent movies that had all three and I can only come up with The Abyss.

Plus, lets face it, for these people, the special effects are the easy part.

Indeed. When you don't have crazy things like good actors or a story, what better to fall back on than big, loud CGI?

Wasn't there a bit of CGI in The Dark Knight?

Doctor Who?

I sure hope so.  I hope they didn't drop some poor guy off of the tallest buiding in China with just a Batman suit and I hope they didn't shoot down a real police helicopter.

Actually, I have a feeling that is probably how most movies were probably made under Stalin.

They flipped over that semi-truck for real.

And when I lived in South Florida and they made movies there was always some stunt they had to do on one on the Intercoastal Highways that would require shutting them down to the public....one of them involving flying helicopters under the bridge....which could have easily been done with CGI.

Don't forget the entire freeway set they built in the Bay Area for The Matrix Reloaded. Although I'm sure quite a bit of that footage was "enhanced."

Seconded.

Poor John Cusack. Every time I see him in trailers for this, I always think, "If only Nicolas Cage hadn't unplugged his phone that day..."

QuoteRoland Emmerich, the director of the upcoming apocalyptic film "2012," has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that a TV series version of the movie is already in the works.

"The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," said Emmerich. "It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. Harald Kloser and I came up with the idea and we have the luxury of having a producer on the film who is a big TV producer, Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy)."

He continued: "We said to Mark, 'Why don't you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?' I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats ... maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I'd be excited to watch it."

Apparently Gordon has already started talks with ABC, which will have an opening after their popular "Lost" program ends.

"There's hope for the world despite the magnitude of the 2012 disaster as seen in the film," said Gordon. "After the movie, there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like. That might make an interesting TV series."

Well, the last live-action TV franchise to be spun off from a Roland Emmerich film ended up being more popular with most sci-fi audiences than the film it was based on. Of course, Emmerich himself was not involved with said TV franchise, so take THAT into consideration.

Something that I just noticed when looking at Fandango. (Yes, I'm thinking about seeing it. I want to see this trainwreck.)

Runtime: 158 minutes.

Dear lord. 2 and a half hours?
