I watched Twilight for the fifth time on Saturday, after reauthoring the newest Twilight iRiff by The Angry Gibbons.  I don't like this movie, but I don't hate it, especially not with near the animosity of a lot of some people.  I think it's just because the Twilight series is just a cliche.  I mean, brooding angst, seduction, attraction to Edward's bad boy nature, attraction to vampires in general?  It's all been done before.  It never did more than slightly annoy me in the past, it won't now.

I guess if I were completely inundated with Twilight exposure, I'd feel differently.  I look at it as another boring movie that some people don't like.

This sums up my feelings pretty well

Indeed. I couldn't care less about this lame-ass franchise. I'm just thankful for the many riffs it is sure to provide over the years.

The only thing that might be good about this movie is that the soundtrack looks pretty amazing:

Twilight: New Moon Soundtrack:

01 Death Cab for Cutie: "Meet Me on the Equinox"
02 Band of Skulls: "Friends"
03 Thom Yorke: "Hearing Damage"
04 Lykke Li: "Possibility"
05 The Killers: "A White Demon Love Song"
06 Anya Marina: "Satellite Heart"
07 Muse: "I Belong to You (New Moon Remix)"
08 Bon Iver and St. Vincent: "Rosyln"
09 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: "Done All Wrong"
10 Hurricane Bells: "Monsters"
11 Sea Wolf: "The Violet Hour"
12 OK Go: "Shooting the Moon"
13 Grizzly Bear: "Slow Life"
14 Editors: "No Sound But the Wind"
15 Alexandre Desplat: "New Moon (The Meadow)"

No MuteMath this time? Bummer.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

I think the best part of all this Twilight hating is that the two main stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are actually on our side about this whole thing. They only signed up for the money and can't stand the book's popularity or the fans. Pattinson has actually inserted thinly veiled insults to the fans during his interviews, which is why I actually still respect this guy despite playing such a stupid role.

Kristen Stewart was actually really good in Adventureland, too.

I think that, at this point, every iRiffing group is obliged to provide a TwiRiff.

News of this movie makes me want to go down to my local Wal-mart, get in line behind several teenage girls, pretend to answer my phone and say things out loud like "Hey, did you hear Robert Pattinson died today?"

So, my wife told me yesterday that her friend invited her to go see New Moon on the day that it comes out.  Should I be ashamed that I feel left out?  I hate to say it, but I'm excited to see this.....yes, it may be for reasons that the filmmaker didn't intend, but I still want to see it.

If I actually waste $9.00 to go see it, it will be for these reasons and these reasons only:

Michael Sheen
Potential Rifftrax moments
Dakota Fanning in her natural state.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

Relaxing Dragon

I fear I may see it, just so I can continue to mock them and be right to do so. However, if I do, I'll do it the same way I saw the last one; pay for a better movie, see that first, and then sneak into it (first Twilight and Disaster Movie are the only movies I've ever snuck into, just for that purpose).

The Twilight series reminds me a lot of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.  I remember for a few years, Johnny Depp's hideous Jack Sparrow mug was everywhere.  Posters, Internet forum avatars, cereal boxes, video games, TV commercials.. everywhere.  It would arise for months when the movie hit the theaters, briefly disappear, then surge back at the DVD release.  Disappear for a few more months, then a new movie comes out, and it starts all over again.

So I can definitely understand having a lot of animosity toward Twilight.

Be ashamed? No way. I'd feel left out, too, as I'm pretty jazzed on seeing this in November. Although, I'm sure I'll be blushing when I'll request my ticket for it!

Oh, Porkins took the "Which Twilight Character Are You?" over at Facebook and ta-da:

You are Alice, the future-seeing vampire. You love to dance, decorate, and shop. Fashion is your passion, and you especially like dressing up your friend...s. Though you are delicate, your are fierce when you need to be and always ready to stand up for your friends. You tend to be a little fatalistic and bossy..

So who's gonna be my Jasper???  :)

It reminds me of Harry Potter, a series of movies I'm not really interested in based on books I haven't read that a lot of people under 20 seem REALLY into.

You know, like some of you said earlier I didn't find the movie to be as bad as I thought it was going to be. But I really cant find myself going to see the new one in November, even if I "might" want to see what happens ;)

Um....I'm confused....

I thought Twlight was for brain-damaged "tweet" girls and that Spike TV was a network for men with extra chromosomes....

QuoteSpike TV jumps on the 'Twilight' and 'True Blood' bandwagon for SCREAM 2009

Let's be honest, if hardcore horror fans turn their noses up at anything it's "The Twilight Saga," but Spike TV is jumping on the phenomenon by making "New Moon" a centerpiece of  "SCREAM 2009."

The network announced today that the pseudo awards show will feature cast members from "New Moon" as well as the debut of new footage from what is expected to be one of November's biggest releases.  Who will appear from the cast is unclear, but it would be surprising for Summit to drag Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson from Vancouver for the event while they are still shooting "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." Our guess? "New Moon" vampire and "Underworld" franchise star Michael Sheen or the members of the Wolfpack (with shirts on for this crowd).

Sooooooo.....great.  They get the little girls to tune in long enough to watch the Twilight 2 stuff...then they'll take one look at the rest of the network, go "Ewww!" and never tune in again.   And the guys will probably zone out the minute the thing is mentioned....

Who wins?
