What did you maniacs learn?

I learned that, while human primitives can keep their clothes on, Apes insist that intelligent humans must disrobe as often as possible.

I also learned that oppressive theocracy is preferable to nuclear armageddon.
I thought I was Dale.

Thrifty

I learned that it was Earth all along.

I learned to hate every ape I see, from chimpan-a to chimpanzee.

Actually I haven't watched the riff yet, and I don't think I've seen the movie in 10 or 11 years.

OmegaR!

I learned that the Hadron Collider finally served a useful purpose

and also that a well placed bash on Bear Gryllis is hilarious

Thrifty

I learned that in suspended animation, you won't age, your fingernails and toenails won't grow, the hair on top of your head won't grow, but for some reason facial hair will.

I learned that apes have no apparent interest in using human technology.  Somehow the ape takeover regressed Earth back to the Bronze Age.

CHF01

I learned that any writing contributions Rod Serling was a part of turned that project into gold  :)

Darth Geek

I learned that an ape culture that can apparently make guns and bullets, will otherwise be reverted back to stone buildings and only the simplest of wooden construction.

I did not learn why the "twist" ending came to anyone as a surprise given the presence of humans, apes that (supposedly) look like those on Earth, ENGLISH, a doll that looked like ours, etc. For crying out loud, how did anyone not figure that out! It's not subtle!

ScottotD

Charlton Heston missed the point of this movie.

"A thing I like that there was no chance would ever continue until recently is now continuing but it doesn't meet my exact personal specifications so fuck this"

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

Thrifty

I learned that my sister-in-law has never seen this movie and doesn't know the surprise ending.  I loaned my brother my DVD so the two of them could watch it and she could find out.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

I learned that no Blacks will survive the coming nuclear holocaust

I learned that - in making the chimpanzees the peaceful ones and the gorillas the war mongers in this scenario - someone didn't know much about either species (Travis the Chimp, anyone?).

I learned that this nuclear holocaust must have somehow changed the entire topography of the US.  When they escape with Taylor to go find the cave they're going from lush fields back toward the Forbidden Zone which is deserts, chasms and rocky bluffs.  But the presence of Lady Liberty means that they had to have headed east to the Atlantic and then North when Taylor and Nova left and that is totally not what that area of the country is like.

And yet, the Statue of Liberty only gets misplaced a few miles maybe?  Cornelius and his group couldn't have been too far south or there couldn't have been caves....unless the nuclear war managed to put Florida above sea level for once?

Most of the DVDs have the surprise ending printed right on the front cover.

I'd love to think that I'm smart enough, but even if I had never seen the movie, saw the Statue of Liberty on the front cover, it probably still wouldn't have occurred to me.

One of the professor gorillas does say "the forbidden zone was once a paradise.  Your breed [mankind] made a desert of it, ages ago".  It's easy to imagine a few atomic bombs could do that.  The question would then be: if there were enough atomic bombs to do that level of destruction, then how could any parts of the statue of liberty survive it?

OmegaR!

I got the impression that it was turned into a desert because the humans stayed in an area and over ate and used up the resources...

I may be mistaken as I was paying more attention to the Riff instead of the movie...
