Quote55 years and 28 movies later, the Japanese monster Godzilla is looking to make his return to big screens everywhere. Making his first appearance in 1954 (Gojira) Godzilla is a giant monster that lives in the sea that comes from the ocean to feed on mankind. Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Legendary Pictures is looking to do another major movie with the iconic horror monster (they are in early discussions), although there are NO details at this point other than this should be a reboot. In 1998, TriStar Pictures produced a remake set in New York City, directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick. In recent interviews for 2012 Emmerich has said that he's not interested in sequels (even though all of his disaster movies are basically the same). More details as they come in.

There, it's fixed. Seriously though, what Godzilla movie made after the 1970's hasn't been a reboot? Thank god Emmerich won't be back. I doubt he'll be missed.

Yeah, that's the thing about Godzilla movies. There's no one timeline to follow through all of them. So if they "reboot" the franchise, it's not like they're treading any new territory. Honestly, after the 1998 debacle, I think we yanks need to just leave it the hell alone and let the Japanese do their G-thing.

There's no crystal clear timeline between them, true.

But there hasn't been the "Oh my god, there's this big lizard thing attacking ships! Where did that come from?"  Over and over.

We don't need to watch another group of "scientists" scratch their heads while the Military tries all the weapons that didn't work before all over again only to find out they don't work! ("Your weapons are useless against me!")

Yes, I think one of the things I enjoyed about Cloverfield was the absence of scientists and the fact that it didn't focus entirely on the military.

Here's my thing everyone is doing reboots these days because Batman and James Bond did it and were huge hits but what they seem to be forgetting is that we had never seen Batman or James Bonds origins on the big screen before and not everyone knew the story.  If you ask me rebooting Godzilla is as bad an idea as rebooting Superman.  We already know where he comes from and it was shown before in a classic movie,WE DON'T NEED TO WAIST 2 AND A HALF HOURS SEEING IT AGAIN!

Doctor Who?

Whatever happened to the good old days when the point of a sequel was the see the characters getting old,see what the long term effects of their past actions were, and above all else TELL NEW STORIES WE HADN'T SEEN BEFORE!

RoninFox

So Godzilla with a walker roaring about being too old for this shit?

I actually would pay to see that.

We sorta got that in Godzilla vs. Destroyah. The old G 'splodes at the end and the baby one becomes an adult. That's one of the problems with Godzilla . . . what have they not done yet?

Ah, you ARE a dreamer, aren't you?

Darth Geek

Just tell a SIMPLE story, with Godzilla trying to destroy the city and the military trying to stop him! Don't give us stupid side characters that have no reason to be in the film or involved at all, don't give us annoying kids in upsetting shorts, don't give us pointless useless psychic chicks, and DON'T GIVE US A LOVE STORY! We all know this won't live up to the original Godzilla in terms of tone and meaning, just make a fun movie that isn't STUPID! That doesn't have characters acting intentionally stupid and doing nonsensical things just because the writers can't think of a reason to get the film to feature length.

Wonder how the QUIPTRACKS guys will take this news?

Pak-Man

Give us Godzilla, give him some giant monster to Vs. and I'll be very happy. Japan figured it out a long time ago. Godzilla's awesome, but he needs somebody formidable in order for there to effectively be conflict.

carlobee

seriously? well if i'd be watching Godzilla again and again then what great thing to do than to compare the CGI effects. and how it has become better all these years. lol
