Goodbye Studio DVDs, Hello Live DVDs?

Ultimately, it's Joel's baby and they'll do what they want, but it's just kind of disheartening.  The live shows are awesome and maybe that will turn out to be CT's legacy when we talk about it 15 years from now, but I think most of us like it cause it's the closest thing to MST3K 2.0 we have (I think), and without "episodes," what's the point?

Recording a live show and selling stills sounds like an awful idea.  It will not look good at all.
True.. True..

They just need to figure out how to 'pace' themselves... Like bands do with concerts:

Release a new album (or DVD in this case) then Tour doing live shows promoting it. It's Simple!! :o

They are pacing themselves, they just aren't doing it at a particularly speedy pace from a worldwide market perspective. Joel said early on that this whole project was a work in progress and that's something to really take into consideration here. I'm guessing that early "let's release a DVD every couple months" concept died when they quickly discovered the live performances were MUCH more profitable than the studio DVDs.

Studio DVDs have become the secondary market for live titles after they've acquired new movies for the live performances. Since they plan on using these movies for more live shows, presumably because they don't have enough new movies ready, I'm not surprised that new DVDs have been indefinitely delayed. I'm way behind on Rifftrax anyway, so I'm not worried about getting bored.

Updated: Titans Will Take Some Summer Down Time
By Sampo
Update: Joel has just sent along a clarification: "Cinematic Titanic does intend to put out more DVDs in the future - we're just not recording any this summer — sorry for any confusion."

So, I guess DVDs for XMAS then?    I spent far too many hours trying to track down, clean up, clone out blemishes, etc on obscure images for these stupid things to have totally wasted my time on these WIP covers.   Plus, I finally had an "RVR II" approved and "Tipper Gore" approved covers for Tiki Island......

Shouldn't you be using a blimp on that cover?

Well Talk is Cheap and Actions Speak Louder than Words..

That's my take on it  8)

Damn. I'd take a $10 DVD (or even a $20 DVD) over a $45 dollar (plus taxes, fees, and travel expenses) live show any day.

Yeah, I was torn between the blimp like they used in the Frankenstein movie, or a cheapo sticker that a low rent movie theater would use.   I think I am now 51% in favor of the blimp.   Maybe by December or 2010 when we get a DVD, I will have a final decision!

Not to mention you can re-watch a DVD.
