Well I don't know how much of the "balance to the Force" junk was in Lucas' original storyline
There was no original storyline, remember?  The press made that up and he went along with it.

Really?  Even the legal pads with handwritten stuff he shows in that Making Of thing?  Not a challenge, I've just never heard that that stuff was being questioned.

The press even forced them to print that A New Hope was part of "The Journal of the Whills" in the book of the screenplay they printed all those years ago.   ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Are you running away with my leg now?  I think you are. :)
Interview in Vanity Fair - that issue just before Phantom Menace came out.

I know about all the stuff in the "Making of" specials - one that I used to have on tape that Lucasfilm made for PBS that had Lucas looking straight into the camera saying that there were going to be nine films.  Then he insists in that Vanity Fair interview that there never were but someone started that and he was like Frankie Five Angels in Godfather II - "And I said...yeah, sure.'

That's why I didn't see Phantom Menace in the theater (after being there first showing for ESB and RotJ)....

I don't know what notes he showed in that special you're talking about....maybe they were ones he gave to Alan Dean Foster to write "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"?

"You know....the one that died seconds after you were born....?"

I admit I haven't read the whole thread but the badass Luke/Vader battle in Jedi rules.

...but then I also like Temple of Doom so y'know

Tripe

It's my favourite Indy film too but I still prefer Empire (I don't utter loath Jedi though, just wish there had been more Emperor)

Doctor Who?

Empire is my favorite Star Wars movie but I have always like Jedi.

Sure everyone says the Ewoks because they are silly and annoyingly cute. But what irritates me the most about their inclusion is that the whole point of including them was that George Lucas wanted to show a primitive civilization winning over a technological one. BULLSHIT! This is a series of movies filled with technology porn, ogling spaceships, laser swords, and a rebellion that has only survived due to it's use of spaceships and advanced weapons! Not only is the idea illogical (a race with rocks and spears beating out fighters with armor) it doesn't even fit within the movies themselves. Even Stormtroopers, as inept as they have been shown to be, would not be afraid of Care Bears with POINTY STICKS!

I don't think so.  If I'm remembering correctly it's aged (accent on the second syllable) pen on paper that shows names like "Naboo" and "Padme Amidala" and stuff like that.  The impression I got was that he'd written a buttload of it all down back in the day and culled the Star Wars we saw from parts of it.  That interpretation meshes with my opinion that ROTJ is pretty much the rest of the Star Wars movie he';d wanted to do in the first place - Luke/Vader battle coupled with primitives vs. stormtroopers on the surface of the world around which the Death Star is orbiting.  We got most of it in SW, we got a sh*tty version of the rest in ROTJ, and we got yet another version in TPM.

We got it the first time, George.  :)

And I have to say I'd always suspected ADF's involvement in the original SW novelization, George's old claims to the contrary.  I've read a boatload of ADF (the final Flinx & Pip novel is sitting in my "to do" stack right now) and two words show up in the SW book that are very ADF and no one in SF else:  "execrable" and "sanguine".

And it used to bug me that a buddy in my elementary school used to call it "Mind of the Splintered Eye".

I have come to realize that TOD is not the horrific eye-rape that I'd always thought it was from my youth.  I actually really liked it a lot when I watched it after a decades-long moratorium.

But I still hate ROTJ, sorry.  To me, it's just poopy.

I've been into the Pussers tonight after a fine show of Cirque du Soleil's Kooza today and a fine dinner afterwards, but I still have to ask you...

Yes...but when was that filmed?  Before or after the post-Jedi break?  If they looked like old notebooks they could have been aged by Lucas' prop department, you know.

And for the record, I do LIKE RotJ.  There's a lot of good in it (ugh, that line) and I think Hamill did a great job. Just don't love it like SW or ESB. It just had this smell of "Let's just get this over with" on Lucas' part. And when he announced after it's release he was going to take a break before the next one I thought, "Good idea".

Oh....and I also hate the Ewoks because they screamed "MERCHANDISING".  Witness the two TV films that played to little girls in the audience....looking for plush toy sales.

I wish!

I stand by my question.  What's wrong with Salacious Crumb?  Was it because he was annoying?  An invention added to the third movie?  He didn't add anything to the plot?  Really, what?
