Yeah the bottom three of the group is the forced subs track like you found but I've never been able to work with the files that rejig gives me so thats why I use subrip.

What does subrip give you?

There's like ten different choices, including srt, sup, sub or even just txt.

Thrifty

RaRGh.  I give up.  If I were just doing a standard reauthor without menus, this would be easy.  I just can't integrate them into DVD Lab menus.

Well, I left a message on Mediachance's support forums, maybe something will come up.

Now, if only I could take this subtitled DVD and turn it into an MPEG with the subtitles embedded in the video instead of on a separate track.

Action Batch

Don't give up, sir! I'll send you my srt as soon as it's done. It should work.

We're uploading a "Collector's Edition" of the zip file now. Many thanks to MrTorso for helping us out.

I'll post back when it's been added to everyone's accounts.

I guess I really CAN'T give up.  After all, I did once spend an entire Sunday trying to get the black and white version of my Plan 9 reauthor working, and I never watch that.

I guess if you finish with the SRT file, I can use AVI Sub to make a new video file with subtitles embedded then use something to conver...... OH GOD WHY WERE THEY WEARING TUXEDOS AND PLAYING FOOTBALL IN AN ALLEY????!?!?!?!???!!?

No problem. It would have bothered the crap out of me to use the old transfer, so I was a man on a mission. Now my mission is getting the damn thing hard sub-titled.  Screw DVD created subs. Hey Action do you have a sub title file that can be read with a text editor? I don't want to type as much!

I don't have one that has all of the times associated with it. But I do have this. It's every line that should be forced. There are, of course, lines in the middle of some of the conversations that are spoken in English and should be left out.

Does this help?
_____________

00:01:51   SEPTEMBER

00:12:36    We've got Yankee Tanks coming in from the plains

We've lost most of our night vision...

and only a few antitank missiles left.

Put your best men into hunter groups armed with RPG's.

Have your men dig holes 100 meters apart.

Wait until the Yankees approach to strike...

      then attack them in force.

      Yes, Colonel Bella.

I want some anti tank here.

      We're working on it, sir.

      This...this is a madhouse.

Do you want to see me?

Yes...yes. Go to the sporting goods store.

From the files, obtain form 4473.

These will contain descriptions of weapons...

      and lists of private ownership.

00:17:38   OCTOBER

00:34:29   Oh, how beautiful.

      What is written here?

      You studied English. Translate.

American history... I know this well.

      Arapaho National Battlefield

Here was a great peasant uprising...

      in 1908 of wild Indians.

They were crushed by President Theodore Roosevelt...

      leading imperalist armies and cowboys.

The battle lasted all winter. More than 35,000 were killed.

It was the greatest battle of the American West.

      Bravo!

Yuri, stay here. I'll take a photo of you.

      African Baboon.

      Now you.

      Come here, my friend.

      Hurry up, you fool.

      Look at me, Yuri.

Look. Look what I've found. An arrow.

      And Indian arrow.

      What a philosopher you are.

I did not now the Indians used steel.

Sure, you fool. They used the melted sabers of Federalist Cossacks.

Did these Indians work in plastic, too?

You idiot. This is bone, polished to a high sheen.

      There must be more.

      Look.

Watch out! She has a weapon.

      Stop, damn it!

      Quickly, catch him!

      Stop!

      Help me, comrades!

      I'm dying.

      God help me!

      God help me!

00:40:01   From now on...

all troops are forbidden to travel...

      outside secured areas...

in any group smaller than squad size.

      Then call Bratchenko.

Tell him Secor Eight is now active.

      Right away, Colonel Bella.

And I want some interrogations made...

      starting with the Mayor.

      I'm sick of his...pleasantries.

      Consider it done.

00:47:00   Take gasoline.

Hey, girl, what are you doing here?

Hey, beautiful, where are you going?

Forget the broad, just get her stuff.

      Where are you going?

You're so beautiful. Wait, what's wrong with you?

      Let's get her!

00:48:48   It's cut..it's cut!

00:49:50   I've seen this before.

      Nicaragua, San Salvador...

      Cambodia, Angola, and Mexico.

      But these are my men!

00:50:29   What is a "Wolverine"?

A small animal...like a badger, but terribly ferocious.

It is also the name of the local school sports collective.

      They're beasts, Ernesto.

You must kill every one of them eventually.

      It's the same as Afghanistan.

      They'll never stop.

Look...I was always on the side of the insurgents.

I have no experience in these matters.

But it would seem necessary to win the support of the people.

As our opponents used to say in Vietnam:

      "Win their hearts and minds."

      And they lost, Ernesto.

      Of course General.

Things are paralyzed at the front, Ernesto.

      Morale is crucial right now.

Keep the men in the secured areas.

You'll see how they forget about these "Wolverines."

      Are you all right?

      - You were saying, comrade?
      - Shut up!

      What is going on here?

00:52:04   NOVEMBER

01:02:17   DECEMBER

01:03:30   Help...the "Wolverines" are attacking.

      Follow me...quickly.

01:05:04   Children did this.

      It's rebels.

      What rebels? They're bandits.

Every time the shoot, the revolution grows.

      I know. I was a partisan.

      And what are you now?

      Now I'm like you...

      a policeman.

01:07:54   JANUARY

01:16:13   FEBRUARY

01:17:13   Attention!

      Be seated, comrades.

What I despise most about warfare...

is the hypocrisy it often breeds.

I've heard euphemisms that we are containing the enemy...

that our sector of pacification is growing.

These are the tactics of the lie.

Lies have the stench of death and defeat.

You can only win a war...

      by exterminating the enemy.

Do you know who we are fighting?

      We are fighting Wolverines...

      small, ferocious animals.

For them, you need a hunter.

      And you know...

      I am a hunter.

      From this moment on...

there will be no further reprisals against civilians.

      This was stupid.

      Impotence.

      Comrades...

if a fox stole your chickens...

would you slaughter your pig because he saw the fox? No.

      You would hunt the fox...

find where it lives and destroy it!

And how do we do this?

      Become a fox.

01:38:41   Comrade Colonel.

I would estimate the enemy body count at 12.

      Twelve.

      Wouldn't you agree?

      Twelve?

      Twelve?

      I saw only one.

But they carry off their dead.

      Of course. Why not?

      What do you think?

01:42:29   I can't remember what it was to be warm.

It seems like a thousand years since I was a small boy in the sun.

How did I come to this high, desolate place...

where there is nothing buy lonliness?

      So much is lost.

I want to look into your eyes and forget.

It all seems so far away..

a warm house where my shadow never falls...

your long, black hair in my hands.

      There is no more revolution...

only you to come back to.

      I will post my resignation.

      They're attacking the station.

      Everybody to the station.

      Hurry! Hurry!

Don't worry about it.  Rejig's IFO Mode can demultiplex the subtitle files from the DVD.  I think the subtitle track is 0x23.

But forget about that.  You can download the file off my web space.

In Rejig's DVD Author mode, just use that SUP file as the Subpicture track.  It worked for me.

I tried using Rejig but all i could get was the closed captioning (text for all dialogue).  I ripped out the three different "english" subtitle streams, and the first one has closed captioning, the other two don't do anything for me.  I can't get the .sup for just the language subtitles when I rejig them back together with my synced audio.

Red Dawn subtitles:

English http://www.mediafire.com/?nmdyemjjfru
Forced http://www.mediafire.com/?ygzmdmyorjj

These appear to be for the non-collector's edition version of the movie. I just now used Subtitle Creator to delay them all by 2 seconds and then return all of the ones prior to the 20 minute mark to their original values, since it appears that that is the point where the two versions go out of sync. I won't have my re-author to verify the delay for a while, but it seemed like that would be a good amount.

I'm happy to report that my method seemed to work well for the Collector's version.
