This kind thing happens a lot especially when you are dealing with new transfers. The original DVD wasn't anamorphic they probably ported over the laser disc transfer.   Sometimes they don't even know they used an alternate cut of a movie. The first edition of MGMs DVD of Swamp Thing inadvertently used the international cut that had loads of topless Adrienne Barbeau. THey thought they were using thier standard US cut and it went out with it's PG rating intact.

Yeah...I'm thinking the new release may have something cut out or edited.  PG-13 now isn't like PG-13 back in the '80's.  Given that Red Dawn was the first released PG-13 movie, there's no way this movie would be released today with this rating.

Hell....There were a lot of  PG movies in the '80's with boob shots.  That's something that would never happen today.

btw, I love my Swamp Thing dvd with extra boob shots.  Bought it right when I heard about the recall.

Hopefully Rifftrax will adjust the .mp3 so that there can be a Special Edition version of the riff.  I'm surprised they didn't use the latest release when they riffed it considering it just came out and all.  I have the old version, but I'd like to get the anamorphic version too.

"Just" being a relative term as the collectors DVD has been out for 2 years.  ;D  If there isn't an advertised difference between 2 releases (i.e. Director's Cut etc) they always go with the one that has been around the longest and has a better chance of already being in someones collection. Or whatever Netflix has in stock. Netflix never seems to update their stock when newer better discs come down the pike.  Like said elsewhere I just hope it is an easy fix for me to do.

I guess I just assumed that when I tried to buy it on Amazon last year and it said they didn't have it, that it wasn't released yet.  Or maybe that was 2 years ago.  Been waiting for this Rifftrax for a while.

I re-authored the original MGM DVD and having a problem with the sync....

Help? ???

I had no problems with my re-author of the original.

I did see that there was an -83 ms delay in the ripped audio track, but had no issues when muxed back with the video.

Anyone else have sync issues?  I synced using my usual method for re-authoring.  My video file is clean, my audio file is clean. I synced to the first line to the T. The next two lines are perfect. From the 4th sync line throughout the rest of the Riff the sync line is happening about 3 seconds before the line happens in the movie. Anyone else experiencing this??

Have they said which DVD was used in the making of the RiffTrax? I am using the 2 disc collectors edition. I really, really don't want to use the crappy non-anamorphic old one.

Same deal here.

I followed the instructions to add some silence to the Riff when the boys are heading back to town and everything seems to sync up perfectly after that.

Thanks for the info

MrTorso

I am still working on this. I got the non special version to see the difference.  The collector's edition runs 3.4 seconds longer.  So far I have found 1.8 seconds. Still looking for the rest. I had to add .45 to the very beginning of the RiffTrax (right after Mike says pause) then add 1.25 at the fade out before they go back in town. About 10 minutes later the sync lines are off a tiny bit by the end the sync lines are noticeably off sync.

I won't even get into the Forced subs issue either. I never have good luck with those.....

I'm not having a speck of trouble with the sync.  Trying to get subtitles over the foreign language scenes though, is tough.

Using the Collector's Edition??

I had to add a total of 2.18 seconds at various times throughout the mp3 to get it perfect.  In watching both version it is easy to see why. The old version is a completely different print that has cigarette burns all over the place and the title cards (OCTOBER, NOVEMBER etc) are not burned in like the Collector's Edition.

I haven't figured out what I am going to do about the subs though.

Yeah, it is a pain. I've got the.srt for the whole movie from SubRip because I couldn't seem to find the forced subs track. Whatever, I'll just watch the DVD again and write down when the translations and months happen and manually edit the file. Should have it done by Tuesday.

Also, because of the font they used on the DVD, SubRip's character map can't tell the difference between an upper case i and a lower case l, so when I use DVD LabPro I'll have to remember to use a font with similar properties.

I found the forced subs track, in both .SUB and .SUP format, it just won't seem to create a subtitle track in DVD Lab.  I import the file, and it gets stuck at this screen:

I got a menu-less reauthor through ReJig, with the SUP files, but that only shows the forced subs during foreign language scenes.  So I've narrowed down the forced subtitle track, but I can't get it into a DVD Lab project.

Here are the subtitle tracks I extracted.

SUB Format.
SUP Format.

Yeah the bottom three of the group is the forced subs track like you found but I've never been able to work with the files that rejig gives me so thats why I use subrip.
