...

I love how they picture that awesome grizzly-looking Bowen bust of Thor in that article. I'd be stoked if that was actually the direction they took with Thor in the film, but by casting Chris Hemsworth... Well, he's kind of a pretty boy. After Iron Man though, i have a little more trust in Marvel.

Doctor Who?

I don't know I lost a lot of faith after seeing Punisher and they have cast a pretty boy as Thor now.

I'm not sure Marvel know what they are doing any better than Fox.

Eh, I'm more concerned with writers/directors than I am with casting. After all, good writers/directors usually know what to get as far as good talent.

Branagh's directing style should make this work, but that's just me.

Doctor Who?

I am a big Branagh fan but he has never worked with SFX before and now it looks like he has a miscasted Thor.

I am in wait and see mode not looking forward to it mode now.

Supposedly Hemsworth had been avidly seeking the part for a while, long before Trek was released.

There had been talk of Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood. He actually looks Nordic...

But is he going to wear the long curved horns?

Loki's cast too. http://www.superherohype.com/news/thornews.php?id=8342

I'd give Marvel the benefit of the doubt. So far they've made one really great movie (Iron Man) and one really good movie (Incredible Hulk). So I have faith in them for Thor.

Dont really know much about the Thor of comic book fame, but I have a few friends of swedish descent and they are pretty stoked.

I am sure the local Alamo draft house will show this and serve swedish meatballs.    Hopefully they will not get Tuborg "the beer of danish kings" beer.

I'm just hoping they really go for the Asgard Gods. A more realistic gritty brown viking movie would just be boring. Real GODS with supernatural powers. This could be a big departure from the more based in reality (now there's a relative statement) superhero movies we've had. I just want variety and to bring genuine supernatural beings into the world of Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, SHEILD et al would be interesting when they do the Avengers movie.

Trumpysgirl

Damn, I was kinda hoping it would be Kevin McKidd.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

Fuzzy Necromancer

Will Loki be played by Shia LeBouf? Explain.
Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

Necro bump!

Let's get you up to speed.

Thor: (Chris Hemsworth)

Loki: (Tom HIddleston)

And joining the cast:

QuoteEven the Mighty Thor can be thunderstruck by affairs of the heart!

Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie "Thor."

In the early "Thor" comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.

Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce "Thor." Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of super hero: "Thor." This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

And the Brian Blessed as Odin rumors just will not die.

So, Jane Porter (Natalie Portman)

Side note, if Blessed does join the cast, this will be a reunion for Portman and Blessed. They last acted together in 1999's The Phantom Menace.
