For some odd reason the IMAX here is located in the kids museum. I'm gonna go see the 2:30 showing of Star Track.

IMAXs'ses in museums were pretty common when the projectors were first made, I think because most movies being shot in IMAX were documentaries and it seemed the natural place to show them.  When I was in Ohio the first IMAX anywhere close to us was in the Air Force Museum near Wright Patt Air Force Base.

The only IMAX I know of around here is at the zoo.

The first IMAX in Chicago was at the Museum Of Science And Industry. Only the called it Omnimax which had a curved screen that surrounded you. Val Kilmer never looked so mighty. That is a Wings of Courage joke for those who don't know.

Fortunately, there is an IMAX screen in the suburbs now that is far closer than Chicago, but they tend to run the first run movies more than the documentary stuff.

I'm going to go see it again today. What a fun movie! Only gripe; Eric Bana. Pretty lack luster. I would have put Bruce McCulloch in the role.

Well, all in all I have to say this movie was pretty good. It had action, likeable incarnations of the classic characters, and even !!! I walked out realizing I may be the biggest Spock whore on the planet. Or at least the country. Maybe the state at least.

I'd be more specific about what I thought, but I've been ranting and raving online all over the place all week and now I'm tired and lazy and don't feel like typing anything lengthy.

I will say, completely forgetting I'd be seeing the movie tonight, that I coincidentally put on my only Star Trek shirt this morning (it's awesome. It says "I'm With Illogical" and has an arrow pointing off to the left. Pak is always very gracious about walking on my left side when I wear it). I have a thing where I try not to wear attire related to the movie I'm going to see.  :P

So c&p.  I saw it again today because I needed to get the taste of Angels & Demons out of my mouth.  From another forum:

It makes so much sense the second time around, if one doesn't get it the first time.  AND, it's still new.  It's new and still fast paced; it doesn't drag or become dull the second time.  It is still inticingand inclusive the second time, but, I think the reason why this is such a great movie, is ultimately, it has a good story, with a lesser sub-story that may be of interest to some.  It was well cast and the actors really do play their parts well.  The characters are engaging and iconic, yet played to include the audience.  I was thinking about this as well: I think, beyond the story, what makes this a great film is that there is ALWAYS something happening.  Copola did the same thing with his "Dracula."  Every scene was an action scene, even if it was just the camera moving to make a certain scenario more fluid.  There was no stills in the picture; the same is true here.  People are always on the move in some way.  If a person is standing and talking, there are at least people busy behind the stationary person while the camera angle switches.  What makes this a great Sci-Fi film is this: movie special effects and real world technology have finally caught up with Rodenburry's vision.  This doesn't look hokey or contrived: we can believe people talking into a helmet and contact others in a space station; we can believe seeing the people who speak to us via an audio line of communication; we can believe phasers having the power to kill and suspend -- finally, after all these years, we have the technology to make a film set in the future believable in the present.  Something else, it's almost a family movie.  There's not a lot of blood, there's little swearing -- that is quite nice to know that they know a story can be told without unnecesary profanities (and I'm not saying ALL swearing IS unnecesary).  ...If anybody has any qualms about taking the Lord's Name in vain, then, there will be a few places where you will wince.

I read on....some site....that a deleted scene is Spock's birth....I hope they have that on the DVD!!!! ;D

I cannot stress enough how much all should see this movie, if for no other reason, just to keep Angels & Demons out of the top spot this weekend.

P.S.  When I went to see this movie, it was still more crowded in it's last showing on it's second week today than A&D was in it's first showing of it's first week today.

Nikki Finke says the elder Captain Kirk is gonna be Thor.  And also a Wolverine.   But mostly Thor.
