Whoa, hold on, wait a minute... there's a new Star Trek movie?!

Okay, seriously though... i haven't seen it yet. But maybe it's time to just make this a Spoiler thread. I'm starting to feel like i need a security clearance to read everyone's posts.

I don't think mine even warrants a spoiler tag:

At one point someone stated that they were on "a collision course" and I couldn't help but say aloud "A collision course with WACKINESS!!!"

I got popcorn thrown at me.

I will probably Netflix the movie.    I was never a big fan of TOS star trek, but I loved TNG star trek, so there!

I was a TNG fan far more than TOS... my dad was big on TOS.  We both thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

I got started by getting hooked on TNG myself, then I latched onto the movie series.  Never quite liked TOS as much, but some of the episodes I'll consider true classics.

Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Dr. Who, I salute you for being able to admit you were hasty in your initial impressions of this film.  Because of that, I won't disrespect you by saying "I told you so".  I'm just glad you were able to put away your misgivings and enjoy the film for what it was.

Shatner's cameo... or what it would've been

QuoteJJ Abrams previously revealed that he couldn't include William Shatner in the new "Star Trek" film, because he couldn't find a way to bring back a dead Kirk. Instead, he offered Shatner a cameo, but Shatner turned it down, stating that he wanted a larger role. But what kind of cameo would it have been?

io9 chatted with writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman and asked him just that. "We had a scene with Shatner," said Orci. "We wrote it, it was in the script."

Sounds OK enough, and would have worked for what it was.

The problem with resurrecting Kirk is that is something that would probably need it's own story and not a two line mention in the background.

Doctor Who?

Yeah thanks.

I think I was just in shock because as long as I could remember Star Trek has been one of my favorite shows and they went and replace some of my heroes from when I was a kid.

Also there are so many ways that Hollywood could mess something like this up.

I am glad this turned out great and I plan to go back to see it again next week.

I've seen Walter Koenig talking about when he first heard about TNG coming out and he was pissed because it would ruin TOS then he became a huge fan.

While it looks good from the trailer, I watched the actor that's portraying Sulu say:
