Quote from: bratpopWhy would you want Dr. Doom to play Harvey Fierstein? Harvey Fierstein isn't even in the Fantastic Four.

Oh my God, i just lost it there! That made me crack up...

But it does bring up a great idea.  What comic character would you want to play a real character?  I think Rev. Jesse Custer would make a terrific Terrance Stamp.

The Saint of Killers should play Clint Eastwood.  They're basically the same now anyways... :)

Terry Long should play John Holmes. Wouldn't even have to change his name.

Chris Evans carried both movies on his back in my opinion.  FF should be the superhero version of Ocean's 11 crossed with War of the Worlds/Day the Earth Stood still, the star-iest stars in the (kind of retro) biggest fight in the universe.  Unfortunately they got a small budget and a director with no flair whatsoever.

Agreed. I know a lot of people thought he was a douche (particularly Mike, Kevin and Bill), but he was the only one enjoying his powers. That was what I missed about Iceman in the X-men movies. In the first comics, he was a kid who looooooved the fact he could do cool stuff (pun intended).

bratpop

Meh, they took ALL the joy out of the X-Men movies, but people like those stinkburgers. I guess at the end of the day, people HATE fun.

If you ask me the "bit of humor" in Iron Man was a FLUKE. They're LUCKY it made any money with Tony Stark liking his Iron Man suit and not being a total loser. If they're going to go with a formula, people seem to love it when the villain murders characters who then fall off screen without a sound, never to be seen again.

Doctor Who?

I kind of like the FF movies.

Sure they were not as good as TDK.

But they were fun and they seemed to capture the fun cheesynes of the early FF comics.

I was hoping we would get a third one.

Alba was the only one I felt was miscast.

bratpop

No, they weren't as good as The Dark Knight. They were TWICE as good.

They weren't 4 times as good? Or 8 times?

I still think the FF movies pretty much sucked, but the riffs for them are among my all-time favorites. And I also like watching them without the riffs. I just loves me some FF.

That's why I haven't bought the riffs, that kids as charismatic as hell.

Personally I think he did come off as kind of a dickweed...but I've always thought that was kind of the point.  I found him one of the most entertaining parts of the movie, because he was so good at it.

That was only the point of the movies, which was a bad, terrible, stupid point. It's like saying, "We wrote it bad... as a joke."

My problem with Fantastic Four is not that there's anything particularly wrong with it; there's just not anything particularly right with it, either. It has a very workmanlike quality to it. I'd still rather see an ambitious failure like Ang Lee's Hulk, than something so completely safe and middle-of-the-road as Fantastic Four.

He is a very shallow person, but I personally like the way that Mark Miller handles the character, in that he portrays him as very self-centered and shallow do to his "live fast, die young" attitude.  You can have a character who's a dickweed and still have him become likable and well-written.

So your saying that the point of both movies was that Chris Evans was a dickweed?  That seems very disingenuous to Julian McMahon limp interpretations of one of the all time great villains and Jessica Alba's breasts as the Invisible Woman.

It was certainly a very dull movie, and their needs to be a sense of awe and wonder as well as humour and family fun.  So who would be the best director for this project?

Anyone who's capable of putting Galacticus (the real mo'fo, not the stupid, stupid completely unimpressive and totally disappointing cosmic mist) into the movie and making him look awesome and terrifying despite the purple.
