The only thing I'm not chilled out about now is the size of that pill!  I can't swallow that!

I'm impressed, several smartass responses, and none of them the obvious Futurama reference.   ;D

For the record, I never noticed the "Greedo shoots first" thing in the Special Edition until it was specifically pointed out to me.  I did notice that they used a different take of Harrison Ford saying "I'll bet you have", but that's all.  And I'll agree it was a dumb change, but only from a logistical point.  Even a stormtrooper wouldn't have missed while firing from across a small table.  I don't think it really changes Han's character.  It was obvious that Greedo was going to kill him and Han was just doing things the Chicago way (or the Corellian way if you prefer), shoot them before they shoot you.  But really, nothing in the Special Edition for the first movie bothered me that much.  In Empire, I didn't really think the new footage of the Wampa was necessary, but whatever.  And the thing that bothered me most about the new "Vader returning to the Executor" sequence was that they changed his line from "Ready my shuttle" to "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival."  Is there any reason they couldn't have kept the original line?  But what I really disliked was the change to the scene between Vader and the Emperor in the DVD version.  I don't have a problem with them adding Ian McDiarmond in, but I didn't see why they had to change the dialogue.  It makes Vader look like an idiot.  Like, are we supposed to believe that Darth Vader wouldn't realize until the Emperor specifically told him so, that this kid named Luke SKYWALKER might somehow be related to him, and might in fact be his son?  I mean, how many Skywalkers are running around the galaxy, anyway?  And really the only thing that bothered me in Return of the Jedi was the fact that they added a moving mouth to the Sarlaac pit.  I don't know quite why,  but it doesn't really seem to make biological sense.

The main thing in Empire that bugged me was Luke screaming.  Apparently Lucas decided it was a bad idea too as I understand he took it out for the 2004 version.

They didn't know his name was Luke Skywalker, which is why they only refer to him as "the young rebel what done destroyed that guldurn Death Star."

I mean, you get attacked by guerillas. At what point is it considered polite to ask their names?

daltysmilth

But Vader mentions Skywalker by name earlier in the movie.  Right after they get the transmission from the probe droid, Vader says "That is the system.  And I'm sure Skywalker is with them..."

As for the rest of your comment, when someone blows up something as valuable as the Death Star, you're going to find out who it was pretty quick if you value your life.  I mean, we found out the names of the terrorists who blew up the World Trade Center fairly quickly, and who they were working for.

Well, that name no longer holds any meaning for him.

Just checked out the clip of the updated Emperor scene and yeah, it does make Vader seem retarded.  Then again it could just be Lucas trying to tie it in with the prequels since the rise of the empire required everyone to be rock stupid.

Again, you guys are underestimating the power of ignorance. The Emperor, who of course would never lie, told Vader he killed Padme, and he had no children. So, he hears about this Skywalker fucker and he wants a word with him. Then the Emperor says yeah, I think he really is your son. And Vader's like WTF dude, you said I croaked my bitch. And the Emperor's like whatev.

It's not that hard to figure out if you bother to think about it more than you suggest Lucas didn't.
