I just got a friend through the Firefly series for the first time (always a pleasure to do) and we just watched the film. You know, even though Whedon catered the movie to fan and non-fan alike, it really helps if you already know who the hell Inara is. Otherwise you're just wondering if they threw in the sexy, bow and arrow wielding chick for kicks and giggles.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

I was a huge fan of BTVS but have never gotten around to checking out Firefly.  I take it you'd recommend it?

No, it's not.   ;D

Caution: This may in fact only be the opinion of one person.

My suggestion: Rent a few episodes, see if you like it.

True.  As is this.

Of course. It's a great little show. ;D

And this (from Bushflash.com):

Quote
"Firefly" was the worst show in the history of television.

Seriously- it was unspeakably horrible, and thank goodness it got cancelled before the first season could finish, because every time Joss Whedon tries to write science fiction, a thousand kittens die.

To fully describe the mind-wrenching stupidity that this show inflicted upon its braindead fanbase would take a few days of typing, and I haven't the time to spare. But hey- you can go over to Hulu, and view the horrorshow for yourself (but I recommend restricting yourself to five-minute sessions. Prolonged exposure to Firefly can result in brain damage, and has been demonstrably proven to cause birth defects, should pregnant women expose themselves Firefly's wooden, two-dimensional acting.)

I felt the need to state the above, because the firefly fan community has now become the world's fourth-worst global phenomena, eclipsed only by global warming, terrorism, and poverty.

Ya see, while 9/11 truthers might posess the ability to be re-integrated into our society after extensive counselling and rehabilitation, I fear that Firefly fans might never be able to function as decent, contributing members of society, again. Relocation camps and euthanasia may be our only hope of avoiding a sequel to "Serenity."

As the above suggests, try Hulu or Netflix first.  And if you actually enjoy this show, good luck to you.   ;)

Yeah, I thought it was mediocre with sprinkles of good here and there. It may have gotten better in later seasons had it had the chance, but yeah. Meh.

The following is a condemnation of PSCD, because she agrees with this bullshit. ^

The following isn't a condemnation of PSCD, but of this little bit of dumb here. ^

May as well be about me because I agree with him.   That's why I enhanced the bit about Whedon.  BTVS doesn't count as sci-fi, IMHO.

But that's okay.  There are people who love the original Battlestar Galactica...still.  And not in an ironic, kitchy way.  There's no accounting for taste.

If he had given some solid reasons as to why he doesn't like Firefly, I might take him seriously. But no, he just gives the usual "OMG, Firefly is stupid and your stupid for liking it" which is absurd. It's childish. It's retarded.

Saying the fans deserve to die for liking somehing is unbelievably stupid. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of stupid that is floating around in this man's brain for him to even type these words somewhere. And if you, PSCD, seriously believe that I and other Firefly fans deserve to die because we like a show than you need to seek counseling immediately.

Well that's the thing. Not all fans are like that. I myself would never try to push something on someone if they didn't want it. That's the thing about haters(the catch-all term I'll use for people who hate things based solely on the fans) they have a bad experience with a few fans and than assume all fans are like that.

Maverick Joe Six-Pack

I watched Appaloosa last night.  I liked Ed Harris' character and his inability to remember certain words.  It cracked me up every time.  The acting in general was very good.  Jeremy Irons, Ed Harris and Viggo's facial were all great.  But there was something about this movie that just really seemed out of place.  I really can't figure out what it was that I hated so much.  Over all it was fairly entertaining.  Not one of the year's best films, but a nice little Western.  Again though... I just really hated one element of this movie but I just can't put it into words...

Excuse me?  All you people who convienently take things literally when you want to.  Do you think the part about the thousands of kittens dying when Whedon was literal too?

And you say that there are no "solid reason" in his opinion piece, what part of "the mind-wrenching stupidity" and "wooden, two-dimensional acting" confuses you?  Or are you like most Browncoats and you ignore anything that doesn't back up your single-minded view of this crappy show?

Get over yourselves.
