The voting pretty much was abandoned, but you got a couple great movies in there.  Love Seven Samurai especially.

Friends, I'm disappointed.  You do realize that The Day After Tomorrow is by no means a good movie, let alone one of the ten greatest ever made, don't you?  I mean really, don't you?  Anyway, in an effort to spice things up a little here and avoid the standard GodfatherRagingBullCitizenKaneCasablanca riff I keep seeing over and over and over again...

1.  The Stuntman
2.  The Limey
3.  Sneakers
4.  The Ninth Configuration
5.  Kind Hearts and Coronets
6.  Stroszeck
7.  Slapshot
8.  Network
9.  The Conversation
10.  Intacto

THE LIMEY?????? That wouldn't be in my top ten if I had only seen eight films.

I appreciate your criticism -- perhaps you'd like to go out on a limb and show us your top ten?  Furthermore, out of all the absolutely strange, borderline mental suggestions we've had so far, why pick on this movie?  Aren't Armageddon, The Boondock Saints, BASEketball, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Enemy at the Gates, or The Transformers a little more deserving of your vitriol?

He's just like that.  You'll get used to ignoring him.

I'm very new here, and I don't know if my list will be legitimate or not.  But I am listing feature-length films.  So here goes, in no particular order:

-Amadeus
-Time Bandits
-Old Boy
-The Princess Bride
-John Carpenter's The Thing
-The Nightmare Before Christmas
-Raiders of the Lost Ark
-Ghostbusters
-Ichi the Killer
-The Forbidden Zone

Some of these are guilty pleasures, sure, but they resonate with me for their own reasons.  After all, wouldn't it be boring if the list was full of movies like Citizen Kane, The Godfather, It's A Wonderful Life, and Casablanca?

I like your spirit.  Although I find The Forbidden Zone a deeply troubling living nightmare, I appreciate its artistic achievements, and your inclusion of Carpenter's The Thing is inspired -- that movie doesn't get enough love.  Good list.

You're like, miraculously lucky I didn't pick on Sneakers.

I just don't see what's so great about The Limey. If you want to see a good Terence Stamp hitman movie, try The Hit. It's got Tim Roth in it. And not Luiz Guzman.

Fine, strike Sneakers and The Limey...I'll amend my list with Queen Margot and The Devil's Backbone.  However, keep in mind that you still haven't answered why my question as to why these movies draw your fire as opposed to universally agreed upon clunkers that have been offered by others...and what's wrong with Luis Guzman?

Since you still haven't provided your top ten list, let me take a guess:

1. The Royal Tennenbaums (you kow, because Wes Anderson is just such an auteur)
2. The Godfather Part II (Those DeNiro scenes really make the movie, and I actually understand all the Hyman Roth stuff)
3. The Seventh Seal (most people don't know that this is where they got all that death stuff from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey)
4. The Rock (I love all of Michael Bay's movies, but bringing back Sean Connery in a James Bond type roll was just inspired!)
5. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton's absence of color in his art direction is so stark it really makes the reds pop, so who cares that the movie sucks?)
6. Sonatine (Most Westerners don't have the patience for the subdued pacing, but a sophisticated viewer will find great stuff here)
7. Forrest Gump (Sure, some people think this is saccharine nonsense, but that scene with Gary Sinise, you know where he's yelling at God during the thunderstorm?  That gets me every time.)
8. Crash (what a searing indictment of racism in our era!)
9. Gladiator (Wow, just wow)
10. 2001: A Space Odyssey (Primitive man evolves, achieves the pinnacle of technological advancement, then returns to the source -- stunning)

How'd I do?

bratpop

Well, I don't watch crap and I didn't read the whole thread. I happened to read the recent posts and I happened to see The Limey and I happened to think that was an odd choice for someone's all time top ten. And none of your guesses would be on my list. I don't have film buff taste in movies, or even blockbuster taste in movies. Or even ten favorite movies, probably. This is Rifftrax. We don't watch movies, we make them funny!

The Lady Rommel

I get tired of seeing the same movies on lists.  Like Citizen Kane, we know its good!

Here's mine in no particular order:

-Raiders Of the Lost Ark
-The Graduate
-The Apartment
-Forrest Gump
-A Clockwork Orange
-The Princess Bride
-Sense and Sensibilty (Alan Rickman...hubba hubba)
-Die Hard (Alan Rickman...hubba hubba hubba!)
-Grease
-Tremors

Hard list to make, but there we go
I don't see race.  People tell me I'm white and I believe them because I watch Antiques Roadshow.

Thank you for not listing Citizen Kane. These should always be "BESIDES Citizen Kane...."
Good for you for listing The Apartment. To me, one of the best films ever, but is highly underappreciated. And Sense and Sensibility to me is the finest Jane Austen film adaptation (not counting TV because the 6 hour P&P rocks, but they had 6 hours). And, of course, "Why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it? We're CLOSED!"

Asbestos Bill

I wouldn't have put Citizen Kane on my list anyway. Aside from the editing, I wasn't that impressed.

My List (not in order):

Brazil
Children of Men
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
No Country for Old Men
The Bicycle Thief
Unforgiven
...And Justice for All (although it also has the worst music ever)
The Life Aquatic
Dr. Strangelove
V for Vendetta

Ok, so there's a lack of John Carpenter love happening so let's fix that
(in no particular order)
They Live
John Carpenter's The Thing
Psychos in Love
Rear Window
Clash of the Titans
Superman II
Bad Taste
Slither
The Right Stuff
Friday the 13th part 6
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (a movie that really lives up to it's name)

I of course skipped a bunch of the 'real best movies ever' like It's a Wonderful Life (which truly is one of the best movies ever made and ever to be made) or Jaws. Sorry if any are repeats...its a long ass list these days.
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

Doctor Who?

I am not trying to sound impressive or anything like that but Citizen Kane really is my favorite movie.

I watch it about once ever two weeks and every time I find something new to love about it.

Charles Foster Kane is the only character I have ever seen on film that is complex enough that he feels like a completely real person.
