I liked Mystery Men as well. I wasn't impressed with it the first time I watched it but it's grown on me.
Maybe I need to see it "unedited" for television.  Where's a used DVD store when you need one?

Poor Eddie Izzard.  Anytime he gets into a studio film it's crap and the good ones are always "indie" films (Shadow of the Vampire, The Cat's Meow.

Which one was he? the Sphinx? I confess to knowing only the name, and having some bad associations with him and this "human" I used to know.
He was one of the Disco Boys. "Disco isn't dead, disco is life!"

The one that killed The Bowler's father.

Mystery Men is pretty uneven, but there's a lot of clever stuff in there. I love the idea of a superhero with corporate sponsorship. Granted, it might have worked better as a short film or comedy sketch.

BathTub

I enjoyed Mystery Men, and I also totally didn't recognize Eddie Izzard the first time I saw it either.

Balls of Fury!

A "Serious" Ping Pong/Kung Fu movie, with appearances by people like James Hong, Jason Scott Lee and so on. Pretty much the goofy fun I expected, but what the hell was up with Christopher Walken's voice? Very odd changes in it, he would alternate normal and low/raspy. Off putting.

Slumdog Millionare

I thought this was pretty much worthy of the hype, good movie that relied on kid actors for a large chunk of the story and they all delivered. I thought things lost a little steam in the final third and the conclusion was predictable... but not predictable in a bad way. Even though you're pretty sure you know how it's going to play out, it's still satisfying when it does. I don't know what else is up for the best picture Oscar or if I've seen any of them, but at this point, I'd have no problem with this one winning it. Probably the most pleasantly surprised I've been with a movie in a long time.

Watched The Squid and the Whale on Saturday evening.

Weird movie. Funny but horrible.  In the end, not something I'm glad I saw, but oddly engrossing while it was on.

That is the most spot on review of a Noah Baumbach movie I've ever read.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

My Bloody Valentine 3-D

It was usual low budget acting but I had fun.  They changed the story a ton from the original but for mindless gory fun it was great. I was amazed by the 3D. The last 3D I saw in the theater was the last 15 minutes of that Nightmare on Elm Street and I wasn't impressed. We went in the middle of the day so we got seats right in the center. There were a few times I blinked or twitched with the expected "comin' at cha" sequences.  My only complaint is the extra $3.50 "premium" they charge for 3-D movies at the theater I go to.

Good Will Hunting, my but that was quite an achievement there Ben and Matt, you managed to make a movie without a single sympathetic or interesting character. What a pile of donkey plops.

Assuming that they actually did write that.  There's been some questions raised.

I didn't really like it either.  Robin Williams' character was semi-sympathetic.  Although he was playing his second "Man still grieving over wife's death"....the first being The Fisher King.

Hulk Vs. Wolverine/Thor

This was a surprisingly satisfying pair of mini-movies. I don't think I've ever seen the primal fury and violence of "Hulk smash!" brought to film as nicely as these two films do it.

The Hulk Vs. Wolverine segment has everything you'd expect from Hulk Vs. Wolverine. Mostly non stop action (With a few of the obligatory Wolverine-Breaks-Out-Of-Weapon-X scenes that seem to be a requirement for any story that uses Wolverine). I was also pleasantly surprised by Deadpool, who was actually very accurately portrayed and had enough lines to warrant his Merc-With-A-Mouth status.

The Hulk Vs. Thor segment was much heavier on story and conflict. It wasn't DEEP or anything, but there was a bit more heft to the story content tan in Hulk Vs. Wolverine. It gives us a little peek at what the upcoming animated Thor movie will be like, and it looks like it will be worth picking up.

Nobody should expect much depth to any film starting with "Hulk Vs." If all you want is "Hulk Smash," this delivers. :^)

Now watching Battle Beyond the Stars, which I'm dismayed to discover is not anamorphic, and the print is filthy.  Alas that we'll never see it any other way.

Why's that?

I've seen a whole bunch of stuff nobody cares about, but I did happen to catch (as in the disease) Disaster Movie the other day.  It's actually not as bad as Meet the Spartans, but it's still pretty horrible.  I smiled perhaps once - when the "Beowulf" character screams "I AM BEOWULF!" to the "Enchanted Princess" character, to which she replies, in her best/adorable Beowulf voice, "I'M A GINGER PRINCESS!".  And I would say the parodies of High School Musical and some of the Juno lines aren't particularly bad either.  The problem it has is that it's surrounded by utter awfulness.   :)

The Lady Rommel

Sean of the Dead.  Finally.

Never really cared to see it, don't like zombie movies.  But I really enjoyed Hot Fuzz, so thought I'd give it a chance.

Absolutely loved it.  Simon Pegg is a genius.
I don't see race.  People tell me I'm white and I believe them because I watch Antiques Roadshow.

Finally got to see The Wrestler.  I have to throw my name on the list of people who've already said that movie is incredible.  A lot of heart very powerful and with a main character that you really care about along with all his flaws.  Also its just nice to see a movie that gets wrestling right.  It seems like most tv and movies to this day base their view of wrestling on Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Very strange to see Necro Butcher acting normal before his match.
