Is Kevin Murphy officially a regular RiffTrax riffer now?

Mike is like the Captain. Yes, you 'can' sail a ship without its captain. But, something is definitely going to be different about it.

I love Mike and all but honestly I like Bill and Kevin just as much...so if Bill and Kevin were to do a rifftrax while Mike was on vacation or something I would definitely buy that! I mean why the heck not? You only like them when they are doing a rifftrax with Mike? I am sure they are still just as funny without him too? Or does Kevin and Bill suddenly become Fran Drescher?

Um, well, you pushed me to it.

I have listened to Kevin Murphy on NPR multiple times. I really cannot stand to listen to him. And from the Matrix samplings, I don't want to bother listening to him on Rifftrax either. And people will say, "Well, how can you not listen to him now but you loved him back on MST3K?" Basically, his voice sounds completely different. On MST3K, he sounds like a disgruntled robot, which is what he was. Nowadays, he sounds like an elitist movie snob that I don't want to hear talking...ever.

I've heard Bill on Top Gun and I really liked him, which anyone who knows my history with Bill C. would find odd. I really REALLY could not stand hearing him talk on MST3K for the longest time. I really railed against him and pushed hard to ignore him for the longest time. But for the sake of completion, I downloaded and/or bought all of the Sci Fi MST3K episodes, and then I eventually got around to watching them...and a funny thing happened. He grew on me. I started to appreciate his Crow as a completely different take on Crow (better than him trying to impersonate Trace) and I REALLY started to like his Observer, especially compared to Bobo or Pearl.

So, frankly, yes. Kevin alone would be like Fran Drescher to me. I don't know about Bill alone, that I might be able to accept. But all in all, I trust Mike Nelson at the point, since he's been there either writing or speaking for the last 15 years. I trust Mike Nelson and I like Mike Nelson. I cannot say that for Kevin and I'm hesitant to say that for Bill.

So, there you go. You pushed me to saying it. Hope you're happy.

Skiptastic I did not push anything upon thee that thee did not haveth in thy self...eee.

Everyone has an opinion (i know cliche) and I personally like all three but if I was forced to pick one of them and only one it would probably be Bill Corbet.

I respect your opinion and everything, but why not give Kevin a go? You never know, he might turn out like the example you've specified above.

Personally, I think Kevin's great.  I think I even enjoyed his book more than Mike's (though I've only read Movie Megacheese.  No offence Mr Nelson, sir!).  If there was the possibility of Kevin doing a solo rifftrax (or perhaps one with Bill), I'd certainly be curious enough to buy it and find out how good he (or they) are without Mike.

EXACTLY!!! All these people on here who saying they would never buy a rifftrax with out Mike on it are just being....well stupid...no reason to black list any future rifftraxs with out Mike until you actually here one or two with out Mike....

I agree. Let us give the new things in life a chance.
Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

Since Mike is the only of the "master riffers" who lives in San Diego... granted there could always be a podcasted rifftrax, a la the type that comes out from SciFi.com for Battlestar Galactica. However, as long as Mike is part of RiffTrax, I think it's safe to say he will at least be on them in some shape or form.

Things can always change of course, but the way things are at the moment, I don't see any Mike-less RiffTrax in the immediate future.

I'll buy any and every rifftrax they produce, even one sans-Mike. Heck, I'd even buy the Disembaudio solo trax. Er...on second thought...I'll wait for the reviews on that one first.

You don't see because you're "blind and probably shouldn't be driving". Alright folks, that's a thousand fish tacos to the person who can identify the MST3K episode that featured that quote.

I can see where you're coming from. Kevin does come off as more aggressive than Mike, and gives me a bit of a movie snob vibe too. Some of his riffing has irritated me, but far more of it has been damn funny, and I prefer for Mike to have a real person to talk with. Plus, if you've ever read Kevin's excellent book A Year At The Movies, it's completely understandable why he'd have so much animosity toward crummy movies.

I love em all...

Even Kevin's Robert Plant  :D

Okay, but I do have a question, and forgive me for sounding n00bish, but The Film Crew is all three guys, right? I guess they don't have to get together as often to do Film Crew work and that's why location is not an issue? Obviously Rifftrax is a much more demanding schedule... but I sure love having them all together, the more the merrier I say...

I know, I just used you as the vault to leap into a rant.

And I'll probably give one of the Kevin Rifftraxs a try eventually, but just as with the Sci Fi era, I'm fighting the power as long as I can...just something to do and talk about, I suppose.
