Is Kevin Murphy officially a regular RiffTrax riffer now?

I would think we are paying for the time it took to write.  What did mike say was the rate? 24 minutes a day? assume a basic time of 1 movie a week, then Fellowship at 3 hours probably stretched the crew to two weeks increasing the costs all the way along the line, the actual download cost is probably insanely trivial, I mean filefront and the like host multi-gig files for free (essentially).

I'm a little behind the curve on my Rifftrax viewing and I haven't worked my way thru the entire catalogue yet. (I'll be watching a bunch more in the next 1-2 weeks, so maybe the opinion I'm about to state will change.) That being said, I haven't had any noticeable comedic enjoyment shift using "Mike solo" versus "Mike and Guest" as the sole criteria. Two of my favorite three Rifftrax are solo Mike, so I don't think the format needs a permament second member.

I personally would prefer consistent "Mike only" and occasional "Mike and Guest" releases over less consistent two man releases. I'm here because of Mike, the guests are just gravy.

BathTub

I certainly notice the difference, and ratings wise I would tend to rate the pair ups higher than the solos, in general. This is of course personal preference.  But I think it sounds like they are a little more relaxed, having a fun time. I think the interaction and banter between the two adds a lot.  I think the guys acknowledge this by having Disembaudio play the part when it's just Mike, now there was a negative reaction I think the first time when he did his rant on the 5th Element, so he was toned down a bit, but he still plays that part.  Having the interaction breaks up the idea of just this guy sitting there firing off quips to the TV, and it feels more like friends taking pot shots at the film, or perhaps thats just the 'Sad Lonely Guy' Angle   ;)

Plus I wouldn't want to give up lines like this on X-Men

Mike as Teenager: I Believe it is time for you to love me now...
Bill: I don't think that was in our contract Mike!

But either way, I will keep buying them!

Although its not official or anything, I'd say Kevin is just as much a part of this as mike by now. Maybe the better question is when is the whole crew going to be united on one/several riff trax.

Okay, so it's been a month since this thread was active but I feel the urge to put in my 2 cents...

Personally I will buy any and every Rifftrax made, regardless of the actual riffers, as long as Mike has creative input. So much of it is in the writing. I understand people's hesitation, because it does become almost like a family, you get used to certain styles and attitudes and delivery... I remember the first time I saw the old KTMA episodes and the Season One with Josh and it took me a while to get used to him, but I did eventually... Same with Mike when he took over for Joel, when Bill took over for Trace... it just takes time, but they're all the same family. I always loved Kevin's approach as the gentle one (but I always got the sense he could explode at any moment, lol... "Don't mock me, you're playing with FIRE!") Joel was more of a parental figure to the bots while Mike was more of a co-conspirator. None of that matters now, of course... as has been stated before, this isn't MST3K 2.0 (as great as that sounds or as much as it "feels" like it is). This is Rifftrax, and I'm just so happy that it exists and that Mike has lovingly put this out for us. It truly is a joy in my life now  :)

As far as "inexperienced riffers" go, remember the episode where Dr. Forrester and Frank had to riff the movie in character? Hilarious...

I'll keep buying them... except the Lowtax one (if it happens, and hopefully it's not even a twinkle in anyone's eye).

That's still a no fly zone as far as I'm concerned.

As long as we can avoid for whom the term "internet celebrity" has been used turning up as a guest, I'll be happy.

If there's a bigger oxymoron than "internet celebrity" I haven't heard it. And I took a class on "media ethics."

well whatever that announcement from lowtax was, I guess he forgot it.

After some of the comments that were said about Lowtax and the possibility of him guest riffing...I don't think they'd consider it.

You wonder if Lowtax did it as a publicity stunt or somthing?

Tarantulas, you might be right about 6079SmithW being Lowtax. I haven't seen hide nor hair of him since you two had the little..."discussion" ;)

I think Lowtax can be pretty funny.  OMG, I must be Lowtax too!  ::)

I will not buy a Rifftrax without Mike Nelson.

I've actually only bought one that had someone other than Mike on it, that one being Top Gun with Bill, so I'm not really big on guest Riffers...which kind of makes it hard for me to keep up.

I love Mike and all but honestly I like Bill and Kevin just as much...so if Bill and Kevin were to do a rifftrax while Mike was on vacation or something I would definitely buy that! I mean why the heck not? You only like them when they are doing a rifftrax with Mike? I am sure they are still just as funny without him too? Or does Kevin and Bill suddenly become Fran Drescher?

Any of the three riffers would do a great job I think...but the comic genius we know and love is really a Mike Nelson creation, so even if someone else was doing the performance, I think Mike would still need to have a hand...but then again, I've been wrong before
