When I say silly, I don't mean something that is intentionally funny. I mean something that was meant to be dignified but ends up looking embarrassing and disgraceful.

Because there's no "all of the above" option, I picked the midichlorians scene.  Not only is it a lump of unnecessary exposition, it also completely ruins the Jedi mythos.  Huzzah!

Out of this list, definitely the scene with the "open air frog market", and that stupid character with the crappy mask.

Other scenes like this include the stupid mulit-armed character selling food at the pod race, and the mini-greedo played by Warwick Davis. Just terrible. Unacceptable for such a huge production.

It's not up there but I'm going with the whole "But I thought you said the problem with the galaxy is that people don't help one another?" scene when they are having dinner with Anakin and Schmi (the mother). I hate that scene.

I had to go with Amidala speaking in any scene.  She rivaled Jar-Jar for complete lack of dignity, though it wasn't actually necessary for her to speak to accomplish this.

I'm not going to vote, as there are just too many good choices. That said, I'll agree that when I first saw TPM in the theater the thing that stuck with me the most was mini-Greedo... I just couldn't get over it. "They just stuck the adult sized, 1977 Greedo mask on a midget... seriously? wtf?"... I kept repeating it over and over... As trivial as it was, it easily was the most bothersome thing for me from that initial viewing.

Well... in my defense, I was really tired when I posted the poll, plus I knew if I put
an "All of the above" option... Everyone would have chosen it!  :D Plus, can someone
tell me why someone would write a stupid line like "I'm a person and my name is Anakin!"
That sounds like the zinger for this movie to me.  ;D

I'm with mrbasehart. What a crock.

The entire film, several of the characters act like they're delivering Shakespeare when they're actually in a crappy sci-fi film written by George Lucas. That spoils it, constantly, for me.

So...Naboo has a water core, huh?  Good one, George. It's the "Kessel Run in less than 12 Parsecs" all over again.  Someone needs to send this guy a high school science book.

Hey! We get water-beds...Why not water planets?!!?

...

Nevermind.  ;D

Its not exactly the planet's core, its just a passageway of under water caves called the planet core just for the heck of it. Yes, I'm a nerd.

Anyways, I chose "I'm a person and my name is Anakin." Its kind of a cheesy line, but it still can be delivered good, but the kid completely blew it. I think it would've been better if they hired a kid who was atleast 13 years old. Having a nine year old in a lead role is a huge risk.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Nerdiness aside (cos frankly, who here isn't? We're MST/Rifftrax fans and we post on an internet message board...), that's an explanation by someone else after the fact, just like the whole Black Holes/Maw Installation crap about Kessel was. Lucas clearly meant it to be through the planet.

Not really, I have one of those incredible cross sections books which shows maps of certain places in the star wars universe and it shows a layout of the planet core which by the looks of it is only a bunch of underwater caves no more than 200 feet under ground the planet surface. Its just basically a passage way called "The Planet Core" by the gungans since it goes so deep underground, that's how it got its name. The actual planet core of Naboo is filled with lava and plasma ( the bright stuff coming up the tubes you see during the fight with Darth Maul ).

It will never cease to amaze me how much thought and hard work went into making such a terrible movie :)

And how is this not an after-the-fact explanation?

Just to play devil's advocate... Maybe the cross section book was released before the movie?

I'm not going to defend Lucas' overall handling of the prequels, but I'm not so cynical as to deny the benefit of the doubt concerning things like the definition of a 'parsac' in the Star Wars universe or how the imaginary alien race defines "the planet core". For all we know, Gungans could think that Naboo is flat or some shit. There is a point where even debating it becomes many times sillier than what was presented on screen to begin with.

That reminds me.......what would happen if a Borg assimilated a Jedi? ;D
