OK, let me preface this by saying that i actually enjoy most of Tarantino's films, so dial it back a bit.

However, some people find his style, (which is bascially re-creating scenes from his favorite movies when he was a kid), a bit hackneyed and dirivitive.  They think that he hides behind a venner of pithy dialouge to disguise the fact that he has no ideas of his own.  They think he gets called a genius for blantantly ripping of movies not a lot of people have heard of, and no one calls him on it.

That's the general idea i get from what people on the forum have said about him.  As i've said before, i enjoy most of his work, so there.........try not to spaz out.

Martin Scorsese was also influenced by a lot of movies. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have any original ideas.

If you seriously think "influence" = "ripping things off", then there's no hope for you sir.

I seriously think that you ripped off Bratpop's style of posting. ;)

Tarantino's movies follow a pattern. Snappy dialog and well-shot individual scenes just kinda dumped next to each other in a meandering mush of a movie. Tarantino is a fine technician, but he doesn't have a vision, other than his "too cool for school" love of 70s kitsch and hokey old Kung Fu movies. Frankly, I don't think his love of those things really is ironic, either. Thus, too often, his films are just technically excellent remakes of 70s kitsch and hokey old Kung Fu movies - as if Ridley Scott was brought in to do a shot for shot remake of Mitchell.

As for Dogma, it sucked. Kevin Smith never ceases to be impressed with how amazingly hip he is, and somehow thinks that will translate into everyone else caring what he thinks about, well... anything. I'm tired of people who can't tell the difference between smarm and smart, and Dogma is a prime example of this. Also, note to Kevin Smith: You're the only person who thinks Jay and Silent Bob are that funny. They were mildly amusing as supporting characters in Clerks. They are not amusing or interesting enough to form the centerpiece of a half-dozen films.

I'm kind of in Tarantino's boat with those movies. And I don't think that the movies he loves are kitsch/hokey. I love exploitation films and pulp storytelling.

I do, in fact, find Jay and Silent Bob funny.

And that is all anyone needs to know about you. That, and you think Batman & Robin is better than The Dark Knight.

I enjoy just about all of Kevin Smith's films, but Jay and Silent Bob are never the funniest things about them.

Courtney

I prefer Jay and Silent Bob in the animated series to the real ones.  I like them and I too find them funny, but they shouldn't have had their own movie, that's certain.

Well, if you were actually paying attention, you'd notice that the quote in my signature is from Ingrown Asshair. And I didn't put it there because I agreed with him. I put it there to make fun of him.

Funny, when you insult me, God punches an angel in the face.

Ok I'll try to work out that bit of nonsense when i have a few weeks to spare.

When God looks at you he slaps himself on the head and says D'oh!

I hear Ralph Bashki does the same thing when he watches his Lord of the Rings.

No, but that was the reaction your parents had the day you were born. That and "get that freaking thing away from me!"
