Leet is the "elite" way hackers and script kiddies communicate.  It can be simple like what I just did or more elaborate where they actually make the letters umm, like this "R0(|{!" (that's rock).

It was originally made so the hackers and script kiddies could communicate with each other and not be detected by the general populace.  Today, only 12 year boys who call themselves hackers and threaten to blow up your computer with the power of their brain use it...well, there could be more people, but that's all I've met.

The wiki article is a little more indepth than the urban one...if you really care but seriously, it's not worth the 5 seconds you'd take to read it and I'm sure your IQ would fall at least 2 points.

So...leet is short for "elite"?

Are there people who actually use words like this?

You bet there are. Try playing an MMO game. You'll see this kind of stuff all the time. 'Leetspeek' evolved out of several things, but one of the biggest contributors was cell phone instant messaging. It can be a pain to type out full words on a tiny keypad, so people naturally started using abbreviations. Some common ones are:

ur = your
u r = you are
ne1 = anyone
y = why

And others like that. The language has evolved quite a bit further and now includes numbers and sound alike or look alike letters and characters. For example:

1f u c4n r34d th1s u r34lly n33d t0 g37 l41d

I text all the time and I absolutely refuse to abbreviate.  Hell, I even give grammar a go!

I've been around longer than instant messaging was mainstream (yes, back in the days of bulletin boards and GEnie, I'm old..or a geek, when other girls were playing with Barbie I was reading 3-2-1 contact and programming in BASIC) and I've used leet since I was a little hacker kiddie myself so I don't blame cell phones .  I think cell phones have just made it more public/mainstream where kids use what I call "netspeek" which is different from leet, imho, in email and papers for school and whatever else they write.
It's sad and I always lecture the kids who email me like that.

However, leet has been around since before cell phones or AIM.  I think you have the evolution backwards.  It used to be "elite" people were the only ones who used it and nowadays any kid who is lazy does and they've got their own take on it.

As for the PIZZA!  I get my student loan check tomorrow.  I could call you guys in a couple dozen pies. :-)  Can't ship beer though.

Hey guys. Just been reading through everything. It's too bad that we didn't get it. However, I believe I might have picked up some clues. Conor posted this video:

We're not implementing any sort of things, that's problem with that guys browser.  Sorry the game didn't work out well, guess the system still needs some perfecting.  I'm glad too, I thought that amazon power search was taking all the fun out of the game.   :-*

Which made me wonder why he did that. Yes it was a cool game and I'm glad that my hometeam won, but he put no comment to it. Possible Clue.

Then I saw this on my IMDB power search list:

The Sea Hawk. 1940. Adventure Romance starring Errol Flynn. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0033028/

It fits all of the criteria from our 20 questions (not drama/action, starts with S, only oscar nominated) and fits in with Conor's posting of the turning point in the Hawks/Cowboys game.

I believe that is what it is. Little weird for them to do a rifftrax for it, though, since it would probably be public domain by now and Legend could colorize it and release it with Mike's commentary, but I'm not complaining.

That's so weird, Netflix popped the Sea Hawk into my 'recomended' list last month and I watched it.
It's not as 'Riffable' as State Fair, but it would be an interesting twist.  God knows Errol Flynn is a gold mine of zingers.

The Sea Hawk is in Black And White.
