Don't forget that a lot of people don't think any of the Die Hard movies are particularly good. Like me.

I'm gonna have to be Scott's shadow again and say that Die Hard kicked ass.

Maybe you don't like action movies?
... or maybe you resent the fact that Die Hard is the movie that spawned a thousand comparisons...

Passenger 57 - "It's Die Hard on a plane!"  etcetera, etcetera

Sorry for jumping in so late on this one. I just checked out the trailer now. It looks like a neat shoot 'em up, blow 'em up action flick. If you can sit back and just enjoy it for entertainment, I'm sure you're going to like it.

Interesting that there are no words spoken in the trailer until the Mac guy speaks near the end. Looks like they are going for shock value to get you coming back for the real thing.

*sigh*

No, seriously. It's a passable action movie, but hardly worth remembering, much less canonizing. The acting is wooden (except for Rickman's delicious performance), the dialogue is with a few exceptions pretty sophomoric and the entire plot just childish (there are so many killable darlings in the script and so many lost opportunities for genuinely good lines and reactions). Sure, it's an action movie, but I don't think it has the qualities that make it transcend formula and become a film that can truly stand on its own, as in being able to genuinely enjoy it without having to say "Hey, it's just an action movie".

"An oft imitated, yet never duplicated, masterpiece of popcorn action cinema." - Mike Bracken

^^^ well said... well the rotten tomatoes vertict is 95 % of people loved the film (there's always that 5 % isnt there - Roger Ebert didn't like the film!!)

...  ouch! Die Hard 2 = 64%,
Die Hard 3 = 47 % (no surprise here)

Easy. I have taste.

You don't like Die Hard, that's fine.  But don't say it's because you have taste. ::)

But it puts you in the tiniest minority of people.  Just under groups of people who think the earth is flat, genuinely like fruitcake, & think Yakov Smirnoff is funny.

As long as we're on the topic of "The Franchises That Wouldn't Die," I might as well includethis quiz, which, despite being from the money-grubbing whoresite youthink.com, is still pretty damn funny.

Thinking that majority rule is a valid basis for judging quality is an all too common error. Dane Cook is the biggest standup comic in the US right now. 'Nuff said.

This whole thread begs the question "what makes taste?"
