The science in the film was horrific, but it was still fun.

Oh, hell.....if that's your criteria, bang goes 9/10ths of the Sci-Fi genre.

I can take some bad science.  For instance, I can take spaceship motors making noise in space (i.e. Star Wars)even though space is a vacuum......that doesn't bother me.  But sharks swimming backwards because of an added enzyme in their brain?  That kind of stuff hurts me in my common sense.

Deep Blue Sea is not the worse of the lot though as far as garbage science.........that goes to Armegeddon, that is why I HATE that film so much.  Grass growing on the asteroid?  Starting the space shuttle by banging it with a wrench like my grandparents would to try to get better reception from their old Philco B&W TV?  Terrible, just terrible.

I could never figure out what was wrong with the FF movies.

I guess the problem is that there was nothing right with them, either. They're fine, in a workmanlike sort of way, but I think we've been spoiled by the outstanding superhero movies out there. It's a good problem to have.  :)

TANK GIRL. I saw it THREE TIMES. It's not even that bad of an adaptation considering the writers were hacks.

Agreed. If you don't measure it by the comics, it's a really fun movie.

What if it's not the enzyme?  What if it wasn't so much that they were swimming backward as - because they were smarter - they figured out that if they forced water out of their mouths with enough strength it propelled them backward?  And it just looked to Jackson's character that they were swimming?

Just asking.

How does the shark get water through their gills swimming backwards?

Quicksilver

here's an odd ball one with a story.

me, my now wife and two of my friends went to a drive-in to see Troy, we usually got rather inebriated at the drive-in and this one of those nights. It was a double feature with Mean Girls. We figured well we can drink and smoke during that and then see Troy.

Ends up, we thought Mean Girls was actually quite funny, not anything spectacular, but we thought it would just be awful.......... and Troy fell so flat that my friends fell asleep and then we left with about 50 minutes left.

The Ood: Apologies. I said: I hope you enjoy your meal.

I think it's pretty generally accepted that Mean Girls is great, isn't it?

Yeah, and Tina Fey wrote it, so that's why.

Do they have to get water through their gills at all times?  If so then why didn't the shark in Jaws die instantly while it was on the deck of the Orca eating what's his name?  Can a shark hold it's breath?  Maybe it can but the normal less-intelligent shark never thought of a reason for it.

OH, are we trying to be difficult or are you just not real smart?  Watch shark week, use Wikipedia, find out for yourself......don't ask me to fill in the gaps that public school teacher left out of your education.

As far as the spoiler, that is exactly what I was talking about....stupid is stupid.

Ah....sorry.  Thought I was having a conversation with a mature adult.  My mistake.

Oh come on you two. Everyone knows sharks can swim backwards. They can also fly.

So the backwards thing is no sweat for them.

No, you were being a smartass.  I'm just giving it right back to you.

Hostel, Saw, House of a 1000 corpses and every other movie sensationalist media and 'social commentators' called "torture porn".  If you're not interested in horror nobody is going to make you watch it.

Full agreement. I'm actually a big fan of the Saw series, I happen to like most of Hostel, and so on. I like horror of all types, and this 'torture porn' stuff is just another sub-genre. Not sure why everyone gets so worked up over it (it's certainly a hell of a lot better than the 'PG-13 Remake' sub-genre).
