Quote from: Isaac on September 03, 2008, 06:43:24 PMBela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla is currently in the Bottom 100, which is surprising considering that it's actually not a bad comedy. It's pretty funny. But only 654 people have actually voted on the movie. It definitely doesn't deserve to be in the Bottom 100.

It is not a bad comedy, it is a HORRIBLE comedy.  what is worse than watching a Jerry Lewis movie?  What a movie that has a Jerry Lewis impersonator.  Even the French wouldn't like this crap.

Your opinion. I love Jerry Lewis, and Brooklyn Gorilla has a very good Lewis impersonator.

And stop with the French bashing. They don't worship Jerry Lewis. They just know that he's better than many Americans take him for. I don't understand all the Jerry Lewis hatred.

Jerry Lewis is a comedy GOD and I will NOT have anyone disparage him!!

Heck, if I could personally ask every stand-up comedian I've ever seen in my life, I'd be willing to bet they all have Jerry Lewis in their list of influences. At least the GOOD comics, that is.

so, let me make sure I have this right..............you thought Sammy Petrillo was funny in that movie.  Furthermore, you think Jerry Lewis is funny.  Just checking.

I thought the writer that wrote Petrillo's lines was funny, and that Petrillo did a good job of delivering them.

Furthermore, I find Mike Nelson, RiffTrax, and Mystery Science Theater 3000 funny.

Furthermore, I find Monty Python, Laurel & Hardy, the Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, Ritz Brothers, Olsen & Johnson, Mel Brooks, and Simon Pegg funny...well, you get the idea.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

He's been in a couple of good movies - King of Comedy - and he always produces funny moments in his own films, but his child persona is so intensely annoying to me that it overcomes everything good about him.

Tripe

I'd just like him to alllow somebody else to devise what goes on in the Telethon.

The charity is good (and close to my heart) but as a schedule of entertainment it's awful.

That's quite a lofty statement, considering all he's done. I'm surprised that anyone who's seen all or most of his movies/performances would let his child persona overtake the entire body of work he's accomplished.

An example would be the movie Who's Minding the Store?
Jerry plays a young upstart in love with a very wealthy girl who's parents own the local department store downtown. He gets a job there with the intention of marrying their daughter, and must gain her parent's approval, so he tries his best to prove his worth, only to be humiliated and almost destroyed by her angry, elitist mother who thinks Jerry is beneath her daughter. Jerry shows very genuine emotions and is convincing as one who is used to being dumped on, but still tries so hard out of love for his fiance. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

I like MST3000, rifftrax, Mike Nelson a whole lot or I wouldn't be here.

I love Monty Python (I think you and I have already gone to war over Terry Gilliam's directing), Laurel & Hardy and  sometimes Mel Brooks (Robin Hood - Men in tights was painful to watch).

But Jerry Lewis was never funny, nothing from him but odd facial expressions and a horrible laugh.  Petrillo was even worse.  But, I would say to the forum here to pick up a copy of this film at your local dollar store and judge for yourselves.  If you do, don't say I didn't warn you, it sucks.  It should actually be rated much higher on the imdb.com Bottom 100, like maybe in the top 15.

But Jerry Lewis was never funny

To you, maybe, but to millions of people the world over, he is.

There are more Jerry Lewis bashers than there are fans.  The only time I ever enjoyed anything from him was when Dean Martin carried that hack.

I'd be interested to see the statistics there.  I don't find Jerry funny all the time, but he's had some very funny moments, both with and without Dean.

Let me rephrase, I know of no one in real life that likes Jerry Lewis, but you go ahead and ask me for statistics but don't ask kodiakthejuggler for any.  Because Lewis has millions of fans.  right?  Fuck, Paris Hilton can claim millions of fans and she is also talentless.

I did make the statement personal though, it's something I find negative about Jerry Lewis.  I've seen perhaps, a dozen Jerry Lewis movies, both with Dean Martin and the later ones he made by himself and his incessant mewling and childish face-making is real turn-off for me, especially when in films like The Bellboy and The Patsy, there's some really nice stuff in there.

That has nothing to do with anything. Does anyone even like Paris Hilton? I don't really give a shit about her. The only time I was ever confronted with her was when she appeared on My Name Is Earl. Her only job was to repeat the same line over and over. She didn't really bother me, but she didn't add anything to the proceedings. If I saw her in a film performance where she gave a genuinely good performance, I might say something nice about her, but I genuinely don't care about her. I sincerly doubt that anyone really does, and they certainly wouldn't give her the same amount of respect as Jerry Lewis' fans have for him.

Do you even read these posts or just babble?  I was comparing the number of fans or more specifically the general range of "millions" of fans that was said to be just enamored with Jerry Lewis.

BTW - Here is the "hilarious" Sammy Petrillo in Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla:

Tripe

Ok not the greatest comedy ever but I'd watch it, it's looked like it might have some moments. :-\
