In light of the recent announcement, I should probably mention that I like the whole Pirates trilogy.

I didn't expect the first one to work. I expected it to be scenes from the Disneyland ride cobbled together by a loose plot, like "Jurassic Park III" was with deleted bits from the first two. As it turns out, that's more or less what it was, but the plot and the characters were fun enough to make it work.

The second one ended with a cliffhanger that I did not see coming, and I thought the third one wrapped it up nicely. There were plenty of miscalculations in the sequels (too much silliness, followed by too much darkness, instead of the good blend the first one had), but they were still fun, and the plot was about as convoluted than your average "Arrested Development" episode, but easy enough to follow if you, you know, pay attention and know the characters.

Seconded. I really enjoyed all three entries to the Trilogy. In fact I thought the second one was especially good, it's big and bombastic (and ridiculous at times), and still really cool (the final 45 minutes, especially the sword fight, never fails to amaze me). And I, too, didn't see that cliffhanger coming.

Also in the Trilogy set, Ocean's Twelve (did I already say this?). It's a decent movie with the stars just acting like stars, and I absolutely adored all the little in-jokes (this was also, for some strange reason, the first movie of the trilogy I watched, so even though I didn't get a lot of it, I still liked it the first time)

I like the 2000 remake of Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser.

I find Brendan Fraser has an odd charm that I pretty much enjoy in anything.

I love this series, I can't feel guilty about it.  It's just fun.  I remember laughing my ass off when I read a review of part three that complained that it was "too over the top".  My immediate reaction was "what movie series have you been watching?  We've already seen a crew of the undead and their monkey, a ship made up of equal parts wood, sea creatures, and former crew mates who are turning into sea creatures Captained by a squid-man who can command a giant squid monster and who keeps his heart separate from his body in a treasure chest.  How do you go too over the top after that?"

Agreed there too, Fraser has a quality that can turn his characters into the most likable people you've ever seen.  If you've seen his guest appearances on Scrubs you see all the evidence of that you need.

Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla is currently in the Bottom 100, which is surprising considering that it's actually not a bad comedy. It's pretty funny. But only 654 people have actually voted on the movie. It definitely doesn't deserve to be in the Bottom 100.

And Gigli is not the 88th worst movie of all time. More like one of a dozen mediocre movies released in the last ten years. It's not good, but it's not one of the worst movies ever made.

Precisely. It's a awesome series to sit back and enjoy, the absolutely ridiculous fun onscreen.

I also agree with you on Brenden Frasier (particularly the Scrubs remark; he was fantastic in those cameos).

For you Brendan Fraser-lovers out there, I remember a film from the mid-90s called The Scout where he co-stars with Albert Brooks.  Brooks plays an unemployed baseball scout who discovers Fraser, who is quite possibly the best baseball player whoever lived, and signs him to a personal contract.  It turns out though that Fraser has some...mental difficulties that Brooks needs to help him with in order to make him the player he knows him to be.  It's a comedy-drama, and I remember really liking it, though it's been a long while since I saw it last.

Aha! Here it is:

Also, GODS & MONSTERS.  Brilliant movie that also proves he can act.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
I love this movie. I'm very fond of Oedekerk's humor. Kung Pow isn't so much a laugh out loud funny movie for most people as it is, but if you know the history behind it and remind yourself throughout the film just what they did to the source material, it's quite an amazing feat.

And it's probably THE most quotable movie of all time. God, I love Steve Oedekerk...

Waterworld.....it's entertaining, forget all the bullshit around it and just watch it.

I agree with both these statements.  And since there's a bit of a Fraser lovefest, I guess now's as good a time as any to admit I like Encino Man.

i loved Bredan Fraser for a long time. Gods and Monsters, THe quiet amurican, bedazzled, the mummy, etc. Then he started making crappy dec. I saw the mummy 3 yesterday (not much playing here in O'fallon) and it was very disappointing

i like bf in encino, but it was pretty silly

That's past my line, but I still loved him in all three Mummy movies (he was basically the only reason I stayed for the whole duration of the third one) and in Dickie Roberts.

Which reminds me; Dick Roberts is pretty funny (mostly because I really like David Spade).

Which reminds me; Dave Spade is pretty funny, with or without Chris Farley.
