I think I said it in another thread, but I'll repeat it here: Scary Movie 3. The first 2 I thought were alright (with some hilarious moments here and there), but nothing I'd buy or anything. And 4 kinda sucked (just kinda, not outright bad). But 3, I loved that one. Every time I watch it I still laugh my ass off, no doubt.
You really liked 3 more than 4?  The scariest part of 3 was how long they let that crap about 8 Mile go on.  "Fine. You made your point 10 minutes ago!  Can we get back to The Ring or Signs or some other better part of the film?"

4 had the balance between the different movies just right, I thought.

Doctor Who?

I wonder if half the people who watch SM3 when it comes on TV now even know what 8 Miles is?

As in the movie or the slightly daggy stretch of black top?

You know, a lot of people who saw and loved the Austin Powers movies had no idea what James Bond movies they were making fun of. At some point it doesn't matter.

I'm not saying that makes it a bad movie or the people who watch it stupid I just find it interesting that at some point the parody becomes better known then the movie it is making fun of.

Is this the wrong time to admit that the only movie parodied in Scary Movie 4 that I have seen is/was War of the Worlds?

;)

QuoteSame for SM3.....saw Signs and that was it.

Again ditto.

I haven't had the loss of mind to actually watch 8 Mile in its entirety, or any at all, yet I got the gist of what they were parodying in SM3.

And 1 & 2 are exceptionally funny, albeit extremely lude and filthy.

That is true, but I just think 3 is funnier overall; thus, I came to peace with the fact that it's not just doing horror movies (though at least it's about 60/40 with them and other, non-horror movies). I didn't laugh at a lot of the jokes in 4 (though I really want to give it another chance; I always do that with Zucker films I don't like the first time around).

And for the record, I knew the films being parodied in it, but I hadn't yet actually seen 8 Mile or The Ring (and didn't recall much of Signs, either).

On the other hand, SM2 was just really the movie The Haunting all the way through and I did see that....and was really not happy to have sat through it the first time, much less a second.   >:(

I'm going to watch Student Bodies when I get home.

It also helps SM4 that it backs up every problem I had with War of the Worlds and then some.

QuoteRobbie: Dad, talk to me! What's happening?
Tom Ryan: There's no time to explain.
[a man runs past the window, screaming] : 'Alien Attack!': Alien attack!
Tom Ryan: Well, actually, that about sums it up.

During the real movie the voice in my head was turning into Sam Kinison....."Just say it, you Dickhead!!!!!"

See, that's the problem for me, I never actually got around to seeing War of the Worlds. And I thought most of the good alien jokes were in SM3 with the Signs' gags. Plus, I had watched Motel Hell recently when I watched it, and that made me laugh a bit harder at the ending (sure, it wasn't a clear reference, but I definitely saw a parody in it).

And I'm not saying Scary Movie 3 is good (or bad--never saw it). I'm just saying it's possible to enjoy parody despite not knowing what's being parodied.

Same premise applies to rifftrax.  Some references that go over my head, I'll see later and laugh my ass off.  Of course now that I say that I can't remember any of them but I'm sure there were some.

OK...::cracks knuckles::  i'm about to embarass myself, but here goes nothing...

I like the 2000 remake of Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser.

I remember being dragged to go see Butterfly Effect, and being plensantly surprised that Ashton Kutcher didnt completely drop the ball on that movie.

Against all logic, i enjoyed Bridget Jones Diary, and the sequel, whose name escapes me at the moment: I enjoyed The Holiday, partly to ogle over Kate Winslet.  They are unabashed chick flicks, but i like'em damn it, and i ain't ashmed to say it.

I enjoyed Starship Troopers.  IF one looks at the film as a propaganda film rather than an action movie, its far more enjoyable.

I liked Enterprise....sue me.

I liked Little Nicky...bite me, Mike....

And......the final nail in the coffin.....

.......after being subjected to it by my ex,...i was somehow bizarrely addicted to.........hold..on........(don't back down now!)

Yeah the remake of Bedazzled is an entirely different creature but it's perfectly fun to watch. I also like the different relationship between Satan and God portrayed in it.
