Why Storm Troopers can't shoot straight

Remember back to A New Hope when Luke puts on the stormtrooper outfit and he says "I can't see a thing in this helmet!". Therefore I postulate that their ratio of 1 hit for every 15 laser blasts is actually quite impressive.

Also, there's the part where the Stormtroopers break through the door to the control room where C3PO and R2D2 are hiding, and as they walk in, the Stormtrooper hits his head on the door, unaware that it was too low for him to get under without ducking. It's clearly a mistake, but they never took it out or edited it out. They even left the sound of his helmet hitting the door in as well.

Plus that Star Wars game for Playstation (can't remember the name, Dark Forces?) where the Stromtroopers say, "Halt!  You're not authorized in this area!" and then they shoot you and it takes like five shots to hit you once.

Hey. If they could shoot straight, the Original Trilogy would have been real short wouldn't it?  ;)

Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Yeah only storm troopers would  fire only 20 times to hit the broad side of a barn, and still have all their limbs.

Maybe we can just say that Ben Kenobi was getting a little senile in his older years. I mean, why else would he try to take a nap in the middle of a light-saber duel?  :-\  Stormtroopers probably were more precise at one point in history, like in the prequels. They weren't horrible shots then. So Kenobi is just most likely a little behind the times.

Maybe it's something to do with them all being clones. Copying from a copy reduces quality, so maybe they were all inbred and retarded by Luke's time.

Nah, it's the uniforms that screws their aim up.

I respectfully disagree with you. I think it's that written language developed at about 3000 bc by the Sumerians.
Yeah, it's the cuneiforms that screws their aim up.
I bow to your superior knowledge in this matter.

So Multiplicity logic.  Do Stormtroopers have trouble drinking Coke, call everyone Steve, and just want pizza all the time?

No, Lucas wanted the Stormtroopers to be precise and deadly, yet he too realized that the movies would be really darn short if the Stormtroopers were anything but blind when shooting at our heroes.

[nerd]Well, to be fair, in Ep. IV they were actually trying to miss.[/nerd]
