QuoteJust when you thought that George Lucas couldn't squeeze another penny out of the "Star Wars" franchise, he finds a new way of getting you to empty your wallets.

ComingSoon caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, who revealed that Lucas is looking to re-purpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3-D format. Katzenberg added that Lucas is extremely excited about this and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off.

"He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.

Until Lucas finds the time and money to convert his films into 3-D, fans can satisfy their "Star Wars" addiction by checking out the animated "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" in theaters on August 15th. The new movie will also set up an animated series that will premier on Cartoon Network in the fall.

Gees! At least attempting half-assingly something 'NEW' (like creating Episodes 7, 8, & 9) would be much better ::)

There is a great  deal of irony in that statement, considering what we got out of the prequel trilogy.

When I first read that statement my first thought was "wait, was that a double or triple negative?"  Would have been great if it was like "He isn't going to put a product out, I think that isn't anything not first rate."

well i dont think its a great idea at least they seem to be taking there time to maybe MAYBE make it good.  cause i had heard they were gonna try and get them out in 3d for the thirtieth anniversary a couple years back.  ill hold out a slim hope that it could be good.  but wont go opening night thats for sure.

Aw jeez. -_-;

You know... every Star Wars release gets my hopes up again. And they're up again for Clone Wars.
I admit it's naïve to let the climb so high, but I still think Episode III was close to good without the "Nooooo!" XD
And Episode II could have been worse.

I just want to fanboy yayz that I get from the expanded universe books. That's all!

This is the same thing they are going to be doing to the first two Toy Story films leading into the release of Toy Story 3 in 3D (Toy Story 3-D?).

I'm very interested in seeing how this 3D conversion turns out, especially for a live action film.  Did anyone see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D?  I've missed it the last two years, and I guess the process used to convert that to 3D is similar to what will be used on the Star Wars films.  I'm going to make sure I see it if it gets another release this year.

And I plan on seeing Clone Wars in the theaters, but I have to admit it's not even my first choice that weekend.

I know this isn't friendly turf in which to be a Star Wars fan boy, but how can you not be excited about this? This is the OT and it's gonna be in 3D! How can you mess that up? What part of that would not be awesome?

Doctor Who?

I think Episode 3 is the worst Star Wars movie yet, also i hate the SEs of the old movies.

Also you know Lucas is going to use this time to make even more changes to the OT and make it even more PC then he and Spielburge did with Greedo shooting first and E.T.

I am sorry but Lucas has killed any love i once had for new Star Wars.

I don't know how well it'll work with a live action film, but I think it worked extremely well for Nightmare Before Christmas.  I've seen it both years they've released it, hopefully it remains an annual tradition.

Exactly, look what he did to Greedo and Solo! ...and you think the OT is safe?
