This 21 min Rankin/Bass special can be found on The Year Without a Santa Claus DVD.

Merry Christm"ass"!

What happened with the Christmas movie poll? I thought the winner of the poll (which was "Jingle all the way" I believe) was going to be the Xmas rifftrax.

Conor

Polls are done for informational purposes and for fun.  It's always helpful to see what people are thinking, but sometimes a popular selection doesn't work out because of content (Showgirls) or because the movie just doesn't work well for a riffing (Jingle All the Way.)  We looked at Jingle All the Way, and felt that since the movie is in many ways a joke in its own right, it didn't work as well as other movies that are meant to be taken seriously.  People voting in a poll because they fondly remember Jingle All the Way being very stupid is a different opinion than people actually sitting down with a movie and deciding whether or not it would make a good RiffTrax.

I'm wondering how you DVD cover-makers are going to go about doing this one...there's not really any cover art to speak of.

As I mentioned in another post...
I'm just going to grab a bunch of screen shots from the movie, and then make it all "customized" like.

Shouldn't bee too hard or different then what I have already been doing.

I'm not sure how MrTorso will deal with this, since he likes to make his look more prefessional. But I am confident he will figure it out  ;)

Well I am curious of the origins of that mini poster image, is that rendered by you guys just for that promo image? Any chance of it bigger without writing on it? If that would be useful to anyone.

there's always the vhs cover to start with.

That is an idea. I will have to keep an eye out for it.

does that mean we're probably not getting Batman & Robin?

Pak-Man

I think B+R is the kind of stupid that CAN be riffed. That said, they never promised to do our playoff pick, but the process has given the winner some clout... :^)

I don't see how they can't do it though, it has a banner for fuck's sake!  8)

I can only imagine how inane a Christmas story about a donkey can be.

Bob

The Gumby Riff on MST3K was one of the funniest things ever done on that show, so this deserves our attention.

I personally wish they would have done Rudolph because it's my favorite claymation Christmas movie ever and it's  more popular than Nestor but I love Nestor too.  Who can't love a long eared donkey who saves Christmas by remembering he was born in a manger and deciding baby Jesus should be too?  It's the bestest!

I too wish they had riffed Rudolph.

Here are my reasons why:
- Rudolph is more popular; Its a classic. It would have brought more attention to RiffTrax. Kinda like when they riffed on big movies like Matrix, Phantom Menace and FOTR.
- Rudolph is easier to obtain on DVD
- Rudolph is longer (approx 50 mins)
- Rudolph has a shiny nose. In fact, you could even say it glows!

I really would like to know if there was any particular reason why they didn't choose Rudolph and why they did choose Nester?
